Ok, we have yet again been accused of picking favorites because we edited one person's sig, while they thought someone elses sig was offensive.
Not true.
There is no fast rule here about length of sig.
BUT... general Netiquette calls for sigs to be no longer than the post you are making.
The netiquette also says that you only post sigs in your first post in a thread.
But these are not rules, just etiquette.
Our rule is if your sig is disruptively big, we will want it changed. What is disruptively big is up to the moderators and Admins.
Not true.
- If the sig is a size problem, we usually ask the person to change their own sig. Only if they refuse to change it do we then edit it.
- If the sig is offensive, we edit it without asking the person and send a PM. If it is GROSSLY offensive we just ban the person.
- If the sig has code in it that is causing a problem, either because it brings a popup or because it is causing the boards to format improperly because you forgot to close a tag, or some other error causing technical problems, we edit it immediately and send a PM. While there we may make other "helpful" edits, they may happen to shrink the sig size. Many people don't know that these boards handle extra whitespace poorly and unnecessarily space out posts and sigs. So many people tend to want compact sigs, and since we HAVE to edit the sig anyway, we tend to try and be helpful. If you really feel your sig needs to take up more space, and we edited it out when we were doing other things, well add the whitespace back, it is not that big a deal, unless you want it to take up a full 800+ pixels high... then we have a problem. (and no that is not the rule... but it would be a problem
)
- if a sig just looks ugly, because of bad code... Lothay may edit it, but it is not that he is picking on you, he is trying to help you with your code.
