How do I turn it off?

    I find it very annoying.

I'm not sure what "Message Preview" pop-up you're getting. But if it's from a private message, or the thread subscription feature, you can turn those off by clicking the UserCP link above, and using Edit Options. Turn off (uncheck) any box which says pop-up.

If you're getting some other sort of pop-up, it's not ours. We don't do ads or anything like that, so I'd sugguest runing Lavasoft's AdAware to clear any spyware which might have installed itself from some other site.

i believe what's being referred to is the way, in a forum listing, if you hold your mouse over a post title (or even the field that contains the title), a red field of text will appear, showing you the first paragraph or so of the message. generally, i like this feature, but it does become annoying at times, and it would be lovely if there were a way to extend the required mouseover time, as well as activating and de-activating it entirely.

        Ah. That's not a user-selectable function.

That makes it something Ngreth will have to look at.

Yes, that is what I was asking about, I looked for an option to turn it off, but like you said, it's not there.

          Thanks for looking into it.

If it is sufficiently frustrating, you can disable that function in your browser as a temporary or permanent solution. Be warned: It uses similar functionality to the text that can appear when you hover your mouse over an image (such as the "EQ Traders Corner" image at the top left of the forum pages, which has mouseover text of "EQTC Forums"), so disabling this in your browser will generally disable the text over images as well.

            * For Mozilla (1.7.1 at least, should be valid for some earlier versions as well), Edit -> Preferences -> Appearance -> uncheck "Show Tooltips".

            * For Firefox (0.8, 0.9.2, probably others), type "about:config" into the location bar and press enter. On that page, find the Preference Name "browser.chrome.toolbar_tips" (can type that into the Filter field or simply scroll) and change the value field to "false".

I don't know off hand how to do it in other browsers. Knowledge Bases, FAQs, guides, or forums related to your browser should be able to provide answers, or Google searching will probably yield a way to disable that aspect.

                Just on a side note:

The title attribute applies to all elements but BASE, BASEFONT, HEAD, HTML, META, PARAM, SCRIPT, TITLE

according to the HTML 4.01 spec.
