Recently, when viewing some messages in some forums, but not all messages, the background changes to a moderately dark blue with black text. Is this a new feature of the new version of the forum software? The black text on the blue background is a bad choice for contrast making the messages difficult to read, to the point that I will often back out of a message, rather than read it.

I am not seeing this. Sometimes, what people do in the threads and sigs can affect the boards. So maybe some blue text in a sig are carying over in your browser. What browser are you using?Ngreth Thergn

I found the person whose signature is causing the problem. I found it mainly because I was following a thread and one new message showed up which caused the entire page to turn blue, whereas the previous day the message was fine.
In the signature of "The Judge, Alchem", there is a body directive, as in "less than sign", followed by the keyword body, yada, yada, yada. As far as I know this is a no-no. You are supposed to have only one body directive per html document to go with the one head directive.
So this part of my message is directed to The Judge, Alchem, please fix your signature.

Thanks.
Yeah, I looked at the .sig file, and it was one horrid mess of bad tags and incomplete/unclosed tags.
I patched it up, and it shouldn't be a problem anymore.
