    I know it is your board. I know you can block any word you wish to. I just wanted to point out the following.

    **** is not a profanity.

    **** is a condemnation of something. In fact, it probably came from the same root word.

    (Darn is what you do to a sock with a hole in it...)

    ======================
    [Tue Mar 12 11:41:43 2002] You begin casting Scoriae.
    [Tue Mar 12 11:41:47 2002] a desert madman says '**** my eyes! You're just another mirage! '
    [Tue Mar 12 11:41:47 2002] a desert madman was hit by non-melee for 688 points of damage.
    [Tue Mar 12 11:41:47 2002] A desert madman's skin melts.
    [Tue Mar 12 11:41:47 2002] You have slain a desert madman!

    We don't intend to use the word filter strictly to weed out profanity. It serves two purposes, really: to help enforce a family-friendly atmosphere and to help prevent people from posting links or ads for particularly obnoxious websites. Actually in looking at the rather short list of things that are filtered, more than half are of the latter variety. Of the things that are filtered in the interests of being family friendly, only four are commonly considered "dirty" words. A few others are words that have perfectly acceptable uses but are so frequently abused that we're sick of taking people to task for them. An example is the name of the regime responsible for World War 2.

    The word you refer to may not, strictly speaking, be profanity, but is still widely regarded as inflammatory and offensive. Besides which, condemning people would fall under personal attacks, which are NOT acceptable anyway. There are plenty of other ways for people to express their strong sentiments about things other than people without using that particular word.
