  • Smedly's summit

Hey Niama, Ngreth, any chance you two have been contacted by Smedly about this big summit SOE is staging? I'd really like to know, and if so, what sort of thoughts you have for it.

    Thanks

Funny GU Comics Forum is down hard...
Wonder if it went beyond bandwidth...or something more nefarious?

Flying out reps from top Ubah guilds, top reps from public forums and talking to many others out there...hmmmm

Reactionary or plausible "OH Crap" reaction at taking EQ's populace for granted and it being slapped right back at them?

Is 6 weeks of focused review on outstanding (some of them 5 year old issues) problems enough to fix holes in the game that progressively has yanked support from the player base reached the saturation point?

I'm hoping Den Mum N House Ogre do get invited for their opinions, if for nothing else than wielding her "rolling pin of doom" and keeping the wanker ubahs in line from pushing their "agendas" through.

*Nods sagely and sips from his mug* Yup, dat lass can make anyone fear for der life's wif dat rolling pin...Err me? No...neber had it shaken at me, hmmm why do I insist on wearing my helm in here? Tink I'm daft? In case she decides me's said sumting I shouldnae have, and she introduces dat ting to me noggin.
Ayup! Us Dwarfs plan ahead! Brell donna make dwarfs wif wisdom dat low!...well dah drinking can get us near dat...but me's not gonna flirt wif dah chance of a whappin!

Please don't say things like this. It only stirs up drama and increases a gap between players and their playing styles.

I would have to agree with the dwarf on this one tho.

Sure, ask the folk from the ubah guilds what they would like to see...
More uber stuff? Better uber weapons and gear only their uber guilds can acheive? Oh and an easier way to twink alts. (sorry, no offence intended to any uber players from uber guilds on these boards, but what else would uber folks who have 'done it all' want?)

I do hope that EQTC does have an opportunity to represent the trade skilling comunity.

250 in brewing with a trophy! All other trade skills? /sigh don't ask.

No, I think it's a bit reversed... the gap between players and styles has increased, because no one really /has/ asked, en masse, for the players opinions.

They say they pay attention to feedbacks; I disbelieve that.
I would assume they take most of their feedback from their own board. "If people want their opinions heard, they'll come as close to us as possible."

Aside from the preference on 'uber guild leaders', this actually sounds like a relatively responsible thing to be doing. I hope Denmother-sama /does/ get to wield her rolling pin, and be heard. Anyone have a link to a page with info or anything?

I'd love to see what goes on here. Sound extremely fascinating...
          Hope all goes well. ^_^

Actually here is a link to the actual message as quoted on the CR gaming site:

            Message from John Smedley

I don't see any specific reference to "uber guild leaders" in there, myself. Just a vaguely worded mention of "many members of the community" and frankly I have no idea how they are selecting them.

Folks, this is not the place to get into uber vs casual. This is the place to converse with the DenMum and House Ogre. If they don't need to hear it, take it elsewhere.

Another post on the topic ...

this time from Mobhunter, from Brenlo, in re. who's going an suchlike (particularly the comment/complaint that many fan site operators [like Woody, actually] don't play the game any more therefore are out of touch with the Game As It Is):

                  http://www.mobhunter.com/message.jsp...332736#message

(pasted here in case it moves or I'm a n00b with links)

                  Hey folks,
While I did ask that some class sites and fan sites were invited, at least one Guild leader or officer was invited from each server. The large majority of the folks coming to the summit are players.

I should also mention that many of the fan site folks will be participating in different activities than the players we invited. Additionally not all of the guilds were the top guild on the server. We have a well rounded list that we hope represents all levels classes and playstyles in the community.

wow. my respect for what's going on is inching up.

I need to stop being surprised when they shock me in a good way.
Wow... I hope it goes as well as they seem to want it to... this could be... very spiffy.

Wow..... I am shocked, and mildly pleased...

I do hope that they get some good feedback out of this, and actually impliment the changes (with minimal disruption unlike the last few patches about collision detection )

                      Anyways.... Nami? are you invited?

Possibly....... but I'm sure we should recognise the increased amount of times Maddoc, Absor and Tanker have been spotted amongst the posters here. I certainly haven't seen as much presence from devs on any of the class or server forum sites as I've seen here recently. Maybe at least in tradeskills we have seen some effort to listen to the community and "come as close to us as possible"

I do hope Denmother and House Ogre get invited to the conference so they can represent the tradeskill community. Trade skills for me is as much a part of EQ as any hack and slash event. But I think it is even more important that the devs are seen to be responding in person to issues raised here. A one off show of listening is all very nice but what we really want is continuing support and resolution of our issues in the future.

So even if no invite is forthcoming I think we should be gratefull for the continuing visits by the devs that do show an interest here and to Denmother and House Orge for providing an evironment that they can visit without being hounded and abused over trivialities (as they might if they visited some of the server and class forums I've seen).

I believe Naimi and Ngreth live outside of San Diego, so if they are invited it is a short drive to HQ for them, rather than the plane flights that some of the other attendees would need.

Well, so far we have not gotten an invite from the person in charge of the summit. One of our dev contacts submitted our name to this person, but we have so far received nothing.

Now that said... THIS particular community has already had the dev's ear, so THIS community should not feel slighted for not being invited to the summit. We have been well represented by the devs, and just because our every whim has not been pushed through, does not mean we are ignored.

I do still hope that we get invited to the summit, but I also think no-one should get up in arms if we do not, because really... we have been well represented overall, even if we do not get as much attention as we want. Dedicated Tradeskillers are maybe 5% of the EQ population (about 3% of the eq population are registered to these boards... I padded a bit more for the dedicated lurkers)... so the attention we get is great for that small a percentage.

Yes, we do have the ear(s) of some devs, and i respect maddoc and tanker for their willingness to come here and do what they do, honestly.
But you know maybe you need to rethink those numbers of how many folks do trade skills, Aid Grimel anyone? Granted some devs may see this as an opportunity to take a big chunk of plat out of the game, but meh.

I do still hope that you get to go to this meeting.
