Urgh!
We thought we lost an entire raid array at one point. 6000+ users email boxes, 75% of the domains we host, and several other things which were less important.
Two hours later while we were contemplating how much data was actually lost (at least 1 days worth of everything) somehow the array spontaneously regenerated itself. You could hear the screams of joy for miles, I'm sure. Still took all day to get everything put back together and in working order.
Anyway, unrecoverable doesn't always mean it's gone.

I can feel your pain, I work in datawarehousing and we just had a cpu crash bringing our informix box down, we learned the hard way about keeping current backups for data retrieval, ((hugs)) hope they get it going soon but if they are talking OS reload and database recreate and data reload, then a week sounds like about the right time frame, it can take a few days just to rebuild the indexes and update statistics. will be thinking about you all.
