  • Smooth Runic Hide

The recipe for Smooth Runic Hide should add that it also returns the Skinning Knife (much to my relief). I suspect it also returns the knife on failure, but have not personally confirmed it.

I also suspect the other spell-hide recipes that call for a Skinning Knife also return it, but again I have not personally confirmed it, so take this latter remark as a suggestion that the question be posted on those items until someone does check it directly: Pristine Crude Hide, Pristine Fine Hide, Pristine Fine Runic Hide, Pristine Fine Supple Runic Hide, Pristine Hide, Pristine Rough Hide, Pristine Runic Hide, Pristine Supple Hide, Pristine Supple Runic Hide, Smooth Crude Hide, Smooth Fine Hide, Smooth Fine Runic Hide, Smooth Fine Supple Runic Hide, Smooth Hide, Smooth Rough Hide (what a name!), Smooth Stiff Hide, Smooth Supple Hide, Smooth Supple Runic Hide.

There are also a few tailoring recipes that use a Skinning Knife and don't mention it being returned, but that's far enough afield that I'm not going to list them here. That is, I strongly suspect none of the spell hides consume the knife, given that Smooth Runic Hide does not, but I don't want to hazard such a guess for the other tradeskills.

And on a related note, when I do a search for recipes that use a Skinning Knife, why is Smooth Supple Runic Hide shown twice? The links seem to go to the same item (same EQID even).

    Whee!
This is a great post, and so lets see if I can answer all of these for you.

You are right! I'm sure these research recipes are intended to return the knife on success and failure. This is the type of thing that people frequently forget to submit with their original recipes and then we go back and correct it once we get the trends down. I'm going through and updating each of these now.

There are also a few tailoring recipes that use a Skinning Knife and don't mention it being returned, but that's far enough afield that I'm not going to list them here. *nods* It is possible that these recipes are in error in the database, or its possible that these recipes really don't return the skinning knife. Once the "rush" of a new expansion has passed, I hate to make sweeping changes based on a pattern because it could just be that the recipes are bugged in game. In addition, I am *far* from a tailoring expert... it's my lowest skill at 234!... so I'm going to leave these alone for now. I've added a "to check" to my personal to do list to come up with a report for this and ask for help from the community to confirm these. Until I get to that (or someone else does!) then we'll just take corrections for these recipes on an item by item basis.

And on a related note, when I do a search for recipes that use a Skinning Knife, why is Smooth Supple Runic Hide shown twice? The links seem to go to the same item (same EQID even).
Well, thats probably happening because we have the same recipe in the database twice! Likely, two of us were entering the recipe at the same time and didn't notice it ... I've removed one of the recipes so this shouldnt be happening now. Thanks for the heads up!

Again, thank you for the post! I love to get these questions and it really helps when you notice a trend in a new expansion so we can start adding that information right away rather than wondering later "Should I go back and change it now?"
