  • Gnome Cultural

This is the start of the gnome cultural.

Start with Vidi Cogsworthy (Ak'Anon 830, -128) on top of palace (hes on find)

    You say, 'Hail, Vidi Cogsworthy'

Vidi Cogsworthy says 'Wha? Who are you? Go away! You're breaking my [concentration].'

    You say, 'concentration?'

Vidi Cogsworthy says 'Yes, I'm trying to concentrate on my calculations! You see, I discovered yesterday that based upon the gnomish arm-torso aspect ratio our current [armor] designs are actually patterned with suboptimal. . . Sub. . . Uh. . .. Blast! You've broken my concentration!'

    You say, 'armor?'

Vidi Cogsworthy says 'Yes, well, before you interrupted me I was trying to redesign Ak'Anon's armor patterns. I believe with my newest calculations, I can increase the efficiency of our designs by a significant margin. Assuming, of course, I can finish my calculations. It's hard to work with strangers running up and hailing me all day!' Vidi sighs and then continues, 'Tell you what, if you leave me alone, I'll make you a pattern book with my new designs. Would you be [interested] in that, or perhaps you're more interested in [symbols] I've been studying?'

    You say, 'interested'

Vidi Cogsworthy says 'Great. To make you a pattern book, I'll need some zombie skin and darkbone marrow from the Estate of Unrest. I can use those to create the parchment and ink for the book. I'll also need some of the battle beads from Crushbone to help bind the book and a preserved orc hide to create the cover. While you're out gathering these things, I can finish my calculations. Hopefully in peace

Turn in one each of the things he asks for in the normal unstack fasion.
    Zombie skins (zombies in unrest)
Darkbone marrow (darkbine skellies in unrest)
battle beads (orc centurions in crushbone)
preserved orc hide (orcs in crushbone)

Vidi Cogsworthy says 'Hey, it's you! Here's your book. Turns out my protractor was broken and I miscalculated the average angle of incidence of the gnomish shoulder blade. So, uh, you may feel some tightness in your left shoulder when wearing armor made by this pattern book. Just don't do any jumping jacks and you should be fine. Otherwise my design was a huge improvement! Best of luck, Sherei!'

    To get the patterns combine:
If you want molds for smithing plate or chain combine the book with :

    a huge block of clay
    a compacted backpack
    sculpting tools
a high quality firing sheet in a kiln

I did not do this... seems easy enough though

If you want patterns for tailoring leather or silk combine the book with :

a compacted backpack (I got min in East Freeport from Sissin Tanner @ 46, -548, upstairs in Leather and Hide (on find)

large bottle of ink (I got min in East Freeport from Sissin Tanner @ 46, -548, upstairs in Leather and Hide (on find)

quill(keeping in mind the new change it maybe "a quill"

roll of plain parchment (I got min in East Freeport from Sissin Tanner @ 46, -548, upstairs in Leather and Hide (on find)

in a book binding (I got min in East Freeport from Sissin Tanner @ 46, -548, upstairs in Leather and Hide (on find)

To make the cultural sewing kit you simply combine:

your cultural metal (small brick of fortified Bronze sold by Clockwork Smith XIII in mines of malfunction, LOC 2166, -541 (on find) 18Pp 1Gp 6Sp 3Cp)

with a needle mold and thimble mold

in your cultural forge(Which may be mislabeled right now as "forge")

To make the cultural needle combine:

    your culture's essence (Clockwork Essence)

with an embroidery needle(made the normal way)

    in a jeweler's kit

That is as far as I have gotten so far. Hope it helps

Unless it has changed, the cultural needle combine is done in a FORGE (smithing trivial 132), not a jewelers kit.

The Clockwork Essence itself is made with Brewing (trivial 122):

    1 Water Flask
1 Clockwork Koi (fished out of the water in Ak'Anon)

    In a brew barrel.

Ok That was my fault. I did not actually make a cultural needle but cut and pasted that information from Dragons of Norrath Cultural Armor Quest Overview .

Since I am such a good fishergnome I fished up a few clockwork Koi's and made the essences. Then I tried to combine the essence with the embroidery needle in a jewelers bag, but it did not work.

Then I tried the same recipe in the forge and it worked just fine.

So, please change it in accordance with Ahnlak's post. Also the information on the Dragons of Norrath Cultural Armor Quest Overview page about making the cultural needle is wrong at least for the gnomes.

      Thanx,
      Sherei

Here is what I have for the quests.

        You say "What symbols?"

Vidi Cogsworthy says "These symbols when used in conjunction with my improved armor can improve them even more! If you're interested in them I have some [work] that you could do to earn some patterns"

        You say "What work?"

Vidi Cogsworthy says "I need you to do a bit of exploration and gathering for me. My inventions always require new components and I just don;t hav ethe time to get them myself. There are several different places I need things from so you have your pick. You could head to [Crushbone], [The Hole] in Paineel, [Skyfire Mountains], or to the [Lavaspinner's Lair]."

        You say "Crushbone"

You have been assigned the task "Orcish Expedition"

        You say "The Hole"

You have been assigned the task "Mercury Recovery"

        You say "Skyfire Mountains"

You have been assigned the task "Scales of Skyfire"

        You say "Lavaspinner's Lair"

You have been assigned the task "The latest in clockworks!"

You'll never guess what new creation I'm working on now. A clockwork animal! No, no, no not one of those that have been made before, an entirely new type of animal. But I seem running low on claws for it The poor thing has to be able to defend itself after all. I need you to go get me some claws from the drakes in the lair. Those claws are highly resistant to heat and so will be perfect for my Felostiporaus.

The claws I'm after can only be found on the elder drakes. You may need to talks with the operatives in the Lavastorm Mountainsfor some help finding them.

                Zone Objective Instructions
                ALL Kill 120 Delve Drakes
ALL Loot 80 Fractured Drake Claws

                    Changes after 16 March Patch

Orcish Expedition - now only loot 2 Orc Tooth

Mercury Recovery - no apparent change to first part, still kill 50 and loot 10

Scales of Skyfire - still in middle of this. No change to existing quest requirements in my journal but that might not happen unless I restart the quest which I won't do as I'm now 17/80 on old wurms.

The Latest in Clockworks - no obvious changes.

Noticed that my completed quest text had changed to reflect the lower requirement for the Crushbone quest. Test now says 2 teeth insdie of 4 previously.

I finished the Skyfire version yesterday, It was (ANY) Wurm in Skyfire. the Wurm meat part was a bit easier as I got to 40 Meats by the time I killed my 50 Wurm.

Okay, I have a gnome writeup in place and linked from the overview.

I've updated everything from this thread, so I'm sending it to Updates Completed. Further updates can just go in new threads in the DoN submissions forum. Thanks, gnomes
