  • Correction to DoN Cultural guide

While crafting the SYMBOLS is level restricted, this appears entirely related to the fact that to begin the quest for the necessary symbol books to make the patterns you must be a certain level.

Crafting the armor sets, however, is NOT level restricted but skill restricted. To test this out today I took the drop needed to make Grandmaster's Wirewood Mithril Bar and successfully combined that and the Grandmaster's Wirewood Gloves although my wood elf smith is currently only level 62.

      other correction

      Quote:
      Make the Symbol

When you have crafted this symbol, it will only be able to be used on a particular tier and slot of cultural armor, and will restrict its use to followers of a particular diety. It will, however, enhance the stats quite impressively.

Smithing (Chain & Plate): Combine the symbol pattern with the imbued water and the dropped item for that tier, in any forge.

Tailoring (Leather & Silk): Combine the symbol pattern with the imbued water and the hide or swatch for that tier and race, in any sewing kit.
      :End of quate

You can mix these. I have a journeyman augmentation on a expert robe and the augmentation was done with smithing so mixing tiers and tradeskill is perfectly working.

It's looking better all the time. =) Only other thing I'd definitely note is that there appears to be a universal set of (initially) dropped items for making the tailored symbols, same as there is for smithing - silk swatch for journeyman's, drachnid silk swatch for expert's, nightmare arachnid silk swatch (nightmare silk swatch? not sure which it is properly called) for master's, and coarse silk swatch for grandmaster's.

This part was confusing, but discussion resulted in the general tradeskill section when I tried a combine using the tailoring hide for my race and got a DNC.

Ok proper name of the master's swatch (from the database) is Nightmare Arachnid Swatch.

You might want to add a note in your guide so other folks won't do what I did, foolishly.

I made cultural legs and the appropriate augment. Then, wanting to see the whole package, I inserted the aug in the pants.

The pants became no drop. I was able to remove the augment and the pants are once again droppable, but the augment remains no drop.

              /cry

              What a waste!

                Cultural guide still reads:

(quote) Gather the symbol base: You make a symbol base that will be the actual material turned into the augment. For chain or plate, this is a particular metal, dependent on the tier of armor: warbone chips for journeyman, fire opals for expert, shissar scales for master, and metallic drake scales for grandmaster. For leather or silk, this is another hide or silk swatch, again dependent on the tier of armor. (NOTE THIS IS NOT CORRECT)

                Make the Symbol

When you have crafted this symbol, it will only be able to be used on a slot of cultural armor, and will restrict its use to followers of a particular diety. You can, however, put a symbol of one tier on a piece of armor from a different tier. At any rate, it will enhance the stats quite impressively.

(NOTE THIS IS NOT CORRECT)
                (unquote)

Using the hide or swatch for the tier or race for the tailored symbols will result in a DNC unless you happen to have the same one for your race as happens to be the STANDARD one. Progression of the needed items for ALL appears to be silk swatch for journeyman, drachnid silk swatch for expert, nightmare silk swatch for master's, and coarse silk swatch for grandmaster's.

Okay Kemie, I've made those updates (I had a busy weekend), and Nalitra, I've added a note to that effect. Good point, I should have thought of that. Sorry you lost your augment.

When you give the go-ahead Kemie, I'll remove the disclaimer at the top about it not being vigorously fact checked and such.

Thank you for the vote of confidence, but I'd leave the disclaimer at the top for the present. SoE appears to be still tweaking some of this and it may change again, and not all races have submitted confirming results yet. You've done a marvellous job with a heck of a lot of new material and I know it hasn't been easy. I weighed into the topic of changes when you asked because the whole thing was difficult to figure out for ME, even after the first excellent attempt at a writeup in the general forum. I have the utmost sympathy for frustrated tradeskillers (and others) who have tried to sort things out and keep getting DNC's.

The only things I noticed on this read through (/duck) besides a few extraneous "s's" (grammar detective /blush) were the following:

                    (quote) Gather Symbol Materials

Make symbol patterns with the symbol book: Here again, before doing this you will need to have one general inventory slot open, as the recipe will generate a bags of materials. That's a main inventory slot, NOT a slot within any container. When you're ready, find a vendor with the right materials. Each city should have one; refer to your race's cultural quest page for more details. Buy a book binding. In it combine your book of culture, a compacted backpack, a quill, a large bottle of ink, and a roll of the right kind of vellum for the tier of armor you wish the symbol to augment. (That's "vellum", not "velium".) The tiers and their vellums are: vellum for journeyman, good quality vellum for expert, high quality vellum for master, and superb vellum for grandmaster. Also, note that the quill used at this step is the quill that was introduced with DoN. The quill that has been available on vendors for use in spell research will not work. This combine cannot be failed. You will get back a bag containing eight stacks of symbol patterns: one each for boots, chestplates, gloves, helms, leggings, sleeves, and wristguards. (PER FRONT PAGE, Absor stated "Quill" was replaced with "a quill" which explains the DNC's folks were getting trying the original way.)

(unquote)

You might want to add something to this affect:

Tailored and smithed symbols for a given race appear to be identical. You can use them interchangeably, i.e. you can place a tailored symbol in a smithed armor piece and vice versa.

                      Okay, updated again.

Btw, tiny little typos and grammatical things are good to know, too. No mistake is too tiny to fix. (And I also edit by rereading things a bazillion times. Nothing wrong with that! *flexes her claws and eyes the crowd*)
