There is indeed evidence to suggest that all the bazu (and feran, for that matter) recipes can be made with both tanned and normal skins of the corresponding type. However, there is always the possibility that one of the recipes is bugged and doesn't work. Therefore, we need actual confirmation of someone making the items using the tanned recipes.

Furthermore, the recipe on the site says that it needs a damaged bazu skin, not a ruined one. That suggests that the tanned recipe would require a tanned damaged bazu skin, not a tanned ruined one.

Again, we need actual in-game confirmation of this recipe, please.

I can confirm that I have personally made the Bazu Sleeves and the Bazu Bracer using tanned versions of the skins. The products were identical to those made using normal skins.

Oh, and yes for the sleeves it was damaged, not ruined - I was making the sleeves for a guildee and spent ages trying to find a normal damaged skin without any luck - so I tried it with a tanned damaged skin, then added some Pyrilian Flames and Voila - one very happy guild-mate!

Edit: Also, did you get the Smithy Hammer back? And if you failed, did you get the hammer back then?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I just made bazu sleeves with tanned damaged skin, it was 268 trivial.

I only did one try and was successful and yes I did get the hammer

I have 250 raw skill but used a geerlok when attempting.
