Says it drops in Bastion of thunder, i'm sure it only drops in Plane of Innovation, off the spiders

He's right, drops in poi for the wok recipe. I'm sure it doesn't drop in bot. Can't however confirm that it drops only off the spiders as I never did much hunting in poi.

I am fairly certain I have seen the clockwork carapaces drop from scrounging clockworks as well.

Yeah, my log files show clockwork carapace dropping off both:
a defective clockwork
a scrounging clockwork
