  • GoD Progressive Quests

I have done the following GoD Progressive Quests after the patches of July 14-16:

    Baking Collect
    Fletching Collect
    Pottery Collect
    Tailoring Collect
    Smithing Collect
    Jewelry Collect

    In all 6 cases:
I have to hand in 140 finished items, broken down into:
    Step 1: 40
    Step 2: 30
    Step 3: 40
    Step 4: 30

Since I am a 1750er, I did not fail a single combine so no grey area there. I have not touched any of the GoD conversion quests before this patch, so no mix up there either.

All quests were done in one continuous session. No "re-hails to reset". I really doubt I have encountered any bugs since all 6 quests behaved the same way for me.

Also, I did the following quest after the same patch:

    Brewing Freebie

It was 420 hand-ins, broken down into:
    Level 1: 120
    Level 2: 100
    Level 3: 100
    Level 4: 100

Again, not a single fail in the combines and all done in the same continuous session. I did not "re-hail to reset". Therefore, I doubt the situation referred to in the following paragraph is a bug. The numbers needed for each Step/Level is simply not the same.

"Lastly, some of the NPCs seems to be bugged, especially baking one. If you find that after turning in 5 stacks (100 items) NPC gives you the 6th stack of the same, finish up that stack and turn them in. Then do the /hail again and follow the dialog again. This seems to reset and NPC gives you the next level items."

OK... this has me a bit confused...

    1. You state for Step 1 (of say Baking) you turned in 20 Completed Items, and re-hailed
    2. this allowed you to continue to Step 1, for another 20 Completed Items turned in, and re-hailed..

THEN you got Step 2 Items?... which you did only 20 and then 10 Items?

Did you hail after each single turn in? or each set of 4? or each set of 10?

Or did you turn in 20, then 20... got step 2, and then 20 and 20, and then step 3?

See why I am confused? They give you stacks of 20 components...

Maybe you are on a special server, like Test? A Foreign Server? a PVP or FV Server?

The "Collect" quests are 10 each.
The "Freebie" quests are 20 each.

I was following the naming system in the quest page. That's why I called them "Steps 1-4" for Collect and "Levels 1-4" for Freebie since that's how they're named in the quest writeup.

What I meant by I did not "re-hail to reset" is that I did not start the whole conversation with the NPC again which was suggested by the paragraph I quoted from the quest writeup page.

The quest writeup page concluded on the following which I am trying to point out was not the case when I did them:

Quest page says "Collect" quests are 120 hand-ins total (30+30+30+30)
Quest page says "Freebie" quests are 400 hand-ins total (100+100+100+100)

The main quest page and each of the individual quest pages for each skill all state the above numbers.

Ok, I just did the Tailoring Freebie quest with another 250 Tailor. Again, this tailor never touched the GoD quests until one hour ago. It was done in one continuous session. There were no fails and I did no "re-hail to reset". The result is:

          Tailoring Freebie:
          Level 1: 120
          Level 2: 100
          Level 3: 100
          Level 4: 100
          Total: 420 hand-ins

I'll re-list the numbers I have found again according to the naming system of the GoD quest page.

The following all done at 250 skill (2 different tailors used). Each quest done in one continuous session. No fails during combines. All done after patch of July 14-16. Never touched GoD progression quests before this patch.

          Brewing Freebie
          Level 1: 120
          Level 2: 100
          Level 3: 100
          Level 4: 100
          Total: 420 hand-ins

          Tailoring Freebie
          Level 1: 120
          Level 2: 100
          Level 3: 100
          Level 4: 100
          Total: 420 hand-ins

          Baking Collect
          Step 1: 40
          Step 2: 30

          Step 4: 30
          Total: 140 hand-ins

I did the brewing collect quest. I did fail on some combines, but other than that, I similarly had to do an extra 10 combines on step 1 and step 3 of the quest.

              Brewing Collect
              Step 1: 40 combines, 40 hand-ins
              Step 2: 30 combines, 28 hand-ins
              Step 3: 40 combines, 38 hand-ins
              Step 4: 30 combines, 29 hand-ins

I would also like to point out that when I completed the last step, (i.e. gave the quest NPC the 29th item) I used the keywords some work on him, and he seemed to want more work from me. So, I gave the quest NPC, Galidnus Corkpopper, one Taelosian Tea and I was told that I did enough and to talk to the freebie quest NPC, but Galidnus kept my Taelosian Tea that I gave to him.

Here are the quest items, recipes, trivials, etc

Wow that's uncanny timing. As you were making this post I was asking Maddoc about this. He's going to check on whether this is intentional, and on whether it can be fixed if it's not intentional.

Can anyone else confirm that you had to do 120 of the first recipe for the freebie quests and not 100 like the other steps? According to Maddoc it should be 100 for all four steps for the freebie. I ask for confirmation not because I don't believe you, Elfdruidess, but to help make sure that it's a universal problem and not something about your character data. It'd also help to hear reports for the other skills, to make sure that it's happening for all of them.

I noticed that some of the text is missing from the Brewing Collect quest write up. Herein lies my story on how I learned to refine Taelosian Tea Leaves.

                  You say, 'Hail, Galidnus Corkpopper'

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'Welcome! Welcome! Hey, I don't suppose you'd like to learn how to brew? Or maybe you already know the trade and you just want to help me out? I've got some busywork to do and I'd like to get someone else to do it for me. I'd rather spend my time making tea from those wonderful local tea leaves. There's a wild variety that somehow grows in the mountains that I really would like to spend some time working with. Can you help me with my [busywork]?'

You say, 'So, you want me to do busywork for you. What do you think you are, a manager?'

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'The local tea can be used for some helpful brews. Of course this means that I have to spend all my time and energy brewing stuff up for the Wayfarers and no time trying new ideas. I really want to investigate this [mountain tea]! It's supposedly growing in harsh terrain and the properties it displays are definitely magical. So if you are willing to do [some work] for me, I'll reward you with the secret that Yitimis and I have learned about preparing both types of local tea. I would need you to bring me some of the Taelosian Tea that Yitimis can make for you if you bring her Taelosian Tea Leaves.'

You say, 'Tell me about the mountain tea. I don't have a pen and paper, but the information you have is probably so little that I won't have to write it down.'

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'It's amazing that this tea can grow in those mountains. I hear that the locals like it a lot and often have it with them. I'd love to have some, and I'll prepare the Taelosian Mountain Tea Leaves for you. I'll give you most of the Taelosian Mountain Tea and keep just a bit for myself.'

You say, 'Ok, ok... You do want me to do some work for you, so you can take all the credit. You ARE a manager.'

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'I can definitely use your help. I need some Taelosian Tea for the tasks I want you to do. Give Yitimis some Taelosian Tea Leaves and she can prepare Taelosian Tea for you. If you bring that to me, I can get you doing the busywork. Of course, since I'm asking you to supply the materials, I can reward you sooner than Yitimis will.'

I handed one Taelosian Tea to Galidnus, and he said:

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'Let's get you started. Brew us up some Traveler's Tea. Just drop a Small Bundle of Taelosian Tea and a Pinch of Sugar into a brew barrel and combine. The tea it makes is very tasty and very popular with the Wayfarers. Bring the Traveler's Tea to me as soon as you have it.'

I slaved away at the brew barrel 4 times 10 combines and gave them all to Galidnus and each time I gave him a Traveler's Tea he said:

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'Great! I do so love tea. Can you manage to do [some work] for me still?'

Upon giving 40 Traveler's Tea to Galidnus, then giving him another Taelosian Tea, he said unto me:

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'Much work to do. Dive right in and brew up some Wayfarer Spiced Tea. Just take a Small Bundle of Taelosian Tea and Wayfarer Spice and combine them in a brew barrel. The result is pretty good! Just bring the tea back to me when you have it ready. Thank you.'

I slaved away at the brew barrel again, 3 times 10 combines, and successfully made 28 Wayfarer Spiced Tea. Each time I gave Galidnus the tea, he said:

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'Good, just what we needed. I still have [some work] to do, if you are willing.'

After I gave Galidnus 28 Wayfarer Spiced Tea, he had me work on something else, and thusly Gladinus spoke:

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'You'll have plenty of experience brewing tea before I'm done with you,' Galidnas smiles. 'I need more Bitter Berry Tea. Personally, I can't stand the stuff, but it goes over well with some folks. Just take a Small Bundle of Taelosian Tea and a Bitter Berry and combine them in a brew barrel. Don't worry, you only need one of those berries, they are really bitter! Bring the tea back to me when you're done.'

Hmmm, poor fellow doesn't even know his own name.

You fail to locate any food nearby.

Aww, nothing for this poor halfling to eat, whilst slaving at the brew barrel again, this time for 4 times 10 combines, making Berry Tea, and the little slave driver warns me of this tea's bitterness, as if any normal halfling would put such a thing to his mouth. Nay, give me a sticky bun, I say. Well, I digress, but after I gave Galidnus the Berry Tea, he said:

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'Well done. Someone will be happy to have this stuff, I hope. There is still [some work] to do if you can.'

When I finished this task, I gave Galidnus, or was it his evil twin Galidnas a total of 38 Berry Tea, then I gave him another Taelosian Tea and he said:

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'Busy work is never done, is it? Well, I need some Rum Tea brewed up. Simple, but wonderful stuff, especially with that new tea. Combine Small Bundle of Taelosian Tea, Wayfarer Spice and an Ounce of Rum in a brew barrel to make this. It's my favorite drink. Bring it right back here to me as soon as you can, please.'

So, back to the brew barrel I went to slave away 3 times 10 combines again, all the while fending for myself as far as hunger and thirst are concerned. Luckily for me, I can forage up something to tide me over from time to time. When I gave Galidnus the Rum Tea, he said:

[Tue Jul 20 17:52:43 2004] Galidnus Corkpopper says 'Nice work. Are you available to do [some work] still?'

Now I figured that after I worked on 40 Traveler's Tea, 30 Wayfarer Spiced Tea, 40 Berry Tea, and 30 Rum Tea, surely I did enough work for Galidnus. So I brought up the subject with him:

You say, 'I suppose you still want me to do some work still, even though I made 29 Rum Tea for you. Perhaps you should seek professional help for your addiction.'

And wouldn't you know it, he still wants a poor hungry halfling to go without sustenance as he said:

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'I can definitely use your help. I need some Taelosian Tea for the tasks I want you to do. Give Yitimis some Taelosian Tea Leaves and she can prepare Taelosian Tea for you. If you bring that to me, I can get you doing the busywork. Of course, since I'm asking you to supply the materials, I can reward you sooner than Yitimis will.'

Well, I gave Galidnus another Taelosian Tea, but apparently he changed his mind, as he must of seen how emaciated I was from hunger, and said:

Galidnus Corkpopper says 'I don't want to work you to death. There are others that can help me. Besides, you've earned your reward. Go talk to lovely Yitimis and she'll give you the secret. Make certain to tell her that you were able to [lend a hand] over here.'

Well, he kept my Taelosian Tea, but I was a starving halfling by this time, so I let it go. I figured what's just a couple of minutes chatting up my work with Yitimis, and as I had to pass her on the way to the bake shop, I went over to her.

                  You say, 'Hail, Yitimis Groglenog'

Yitimis Groglenog says 'Hail. Brell's blessing on you. Are you, perchance, a brewer or interested in learning the craft? I have a lot of [work] to do here, and I could use some help.'

                  You say, 'What work?'

Yitimis Groglenog says 'We're very busy just trying to keep up with demand. With all of the new discoveries on Taelosia, we have a lot of visitors, but I'd really like to have some time to look at the native plants. I've been given some samples of the [tea] that grows locally and it has some very unusual properties. I just have not had enough time to investigate. Perhaps you could [lend a hand] with my daily tasks so that I can free up some time to look into this?'

                  You say, 'What tea?'

Yitimis Groglenog says 'It's aromatic and that's the least of its properties. I have a few dozen interesting ideas I want to try. Unfortunately, the tea requires special preparation before it can be used. I've worked out how to do that and I'd be very pleased if you could bring me some of those Taelosian Tea Leaves. I'll prepare them for you and only keep a small amount for myself. That way we can both try it!'

At this point, I was not wanting to get roped into more work, so I brought up the subject of my favor with Galidnus.

You say, 'Galidnus said I should tell you that I did lend a hand to him.'

Yitimis Groglenog says 'You've been just a peach helping out! I don't think I need your help any more, you've already done so much. Let me give you the secret I promised and you go out and enjoy the rest of the day.' Yitimis pulls out several ragged-looking pieces of parchment, most with wine stains that make them almost unreadable. She holds one up for you to look at. It only takes you a minute to grasp what needs to be done to prepare the Taelosian Tea Leaves and the Taelosian Mountain Tea Leaves. In fact, you are certain that if you work at it long enough, you can produce more usable tea with practice.'

Well, there you have it. That is how I learned to refine the Taelosian Tea Leaves, though I think Galidnus should have had some sticky buns for me to eat while working, or at the very least some muffins.

I have done 5 of the 7 freebie quests and all 5 have had 120 combines in the first set, 100 in the remaining sets.

                            Baking freebie trivs

Finished the freebie brewing and the the trivals are:

                            Oatmeal 31
                            Wayfarer's Muffin 38
                            Wayfarer's Pie 46
                            Wayfarer's Pastry 54

This seems to follow the the samew path as the Brewing freebie,. I jsut started the Fletching freebie and got 31 as the first trival also for the arrows.

                              finished

Finished all the AS freebies quests a poor ogre can and this is what I found:
All the trivals follow the same progression, 31,38,46 and 54. There is another triv for the pottery quest since you have to fire both mugs and arrows. The triv for fired mugs/arrows is 15 and I didn't have a failure doing that combine. Don't know if it's no fail or just so low as to be easy to do. Those of you that have done trade skills longer probably have a better idea.

As this was a zerker, I haven't done the shammie quests yet, will try later with my shammie.
