Aid Grimel writeup changes

On the Aid Grimel quest page, for steps 1 and 2, could you please add the item statistics for the final item in that step? This would allow the user to link to the final recipe and then use the printer page to get a shopping list for all of the subcombines.

The whole Aid Grimel Quest writeup, in my viewpoint, is far too long for one single page. I had broken it into multiple pages last year prior to the disk meltdown... and due to that the breakdown was lost. Since that point I have not had a chance to revisit the quest writeup for a re-breakdown.

I would rather not add more "bulk" to the complete page... but some of the other tidbits, where just the formatting is affected (change this label a bit... make this BOLD... etc) I will do.

I want to try and rethink the overall formatting of Quest Writeups in general... how they are structured, when they need to be sub-divided (like the shawls), and how to best link in items and recipe information so that it is well integrated into the site... and still easy to maintain. Some of my "so-far failed attempts" is the Boat Beacon Quest.. and I would prefer to get that right before tackling the larger quests (like Aid Grimel).

Now that Tudani is helping out... I hope to be able to really spend some time on this...

I can see not adding bulk to the page. In that case the stats for the items given out by the NPCs are not important, and you could even save some space on the pottery step (Urn pattern has stats listed twice).

I think it would still be useful to have item links in steps 1 & 2 to the completed items (Imbued Breastplate and Portable Drink) so someone can see the complete subcombine breakdown. The other sections have them.

OK I have completed my initial breakdown of The Aid Grimel Quest - Smithing. Please feel free to review, provide feedback and suggestions!

I really want your feedback on whether I am going in the correct direction on this.

I like the layout, and think it is easy to read. This presents the combines in chronological order, which is how the person will commonly encounter them. I think this works well for quests like Step 1 with the breastplates that are very sequential.

Another alternative would be to use the tree view used in a regular recipe to show which recipes are subcombines of others, allowing the big picture view. This approach would work well with Step 7 with the Bristlepane Party Platter which doesn't have any previous quest specific subcombines.

One thing I noticed is that the Trivial message is in different places on different items. I don't know if you are hand creating the Item listings, or if you are getting them to auto-generate. On most items it shows on the end of the In: line, but on the Black Diamond of Nightmares it shows up under the Notes section. It is much more obvious on the brewing page which I understand is a work in progress.

One other thing that is content related, not layout related is I think it should list the exact flag text needed for each step.
Step 1:
Saved from certain doom, Milyk and Adler are forever in your debt.
Step 2:
Saved from a world of eternal nightmares, Thelin is forever in your debt.
I will work on getting more specifics on the other steps.

Also of Note is that it has been recently discovered that you do not need Solusek Ro to be able to complete steps 5-8. This is because steps 1-4 require you to talk to Grimel and obtain an ingrediant from him, but the later steps don't. You can't talk to Grimel, but he will accept turn ins without the proper flagging.

In these writeups for the Recipes, I am using a PHP Script to get the recipe information directly from the database, in a standard format. And that format might need to be adjusted with regards to the (Skill Trivial = XXX) bit and your feedback is welcome.

As for putting out a Tree with all the sub-combines, that is not something we are going to do in the quest writeups (that is what the Item Links will give you).

With regards to the flagging needed... There is some corrections/updates that I need to make still. This was just the initial breakdown of the quest, with links to items, recipes and related pages. I will see about applying your updates tomorrow.
