In looking for the cheapest ways to build smithing skills, I checked out the smithing of lockpicks last night. As it says in the db, it's got a triv of 88, etc., but has no pricing information. So, here it be:
A halfling ranger with 117 CHA, indifferent to the Fungus Grove merchant:
lockpick mold costs 9g 4s 4c
lockpick mold sells for 7g 9s 3c
lockpick itself sells for 9g 4s 4c
The only other components for the recipe are a metal bit and flask, making this a thrifty way to skill up, as I'd hoped. The only downside is that the molds are sold only in Fungus Grove and Abysmal Sea. I know nothing of AS, but there's no forge in FG (although there IS a bank).
