Default Oct 29: What a Lovely MOTD

I logged onto my server this evening to find the following Message of the Day:

Quote:
The Nights of the Dead continues to invade Norrath as void shards begin to drop everywhere! From 2pm PDT on Friday October 30th until 10am PST on November 2nd, void shards will have a chance to drop in random chests all across Norrath
Void shards are heirloom (can be shared with alts on the same account via shared bank), and even if you don't have a level 80 adventurer yet, it is a handy thing to be able to stockpile them for future use.

So if any of these shard things drop for my no-where-near-80 characters I should squirrel them away until one hits 80? Are they important enough that maybe I should go hunting for rares, you think?

In the whole 1 hour they've been active, parallels have been made with LoN promo card weekend droprates, which means you likely won't get any, or maybe 1 or 2 over the course of the weekend. Of course, this might very well be like the "rare harvests are broke! I harvested for a half hour and didn't see any!" comments, so will have to see how it works out for real.

The Void Shards are certainly valuable, used in one degree or another for much of the lvl 80 TSO gear. That said, you also get shards from most TSO group & raid content, so while having a shard or three stored ahead of time will be handy, the amount of time you save at lvl 80 won't be huge.

(seems like group instance runs are typically 2 shards from each 1-3 hr long instance run; results vary, of course, with group and zone choice, but that's a ubercrude ballpark for perspective. However, that's all group content - at the moment, there's only one generally soloable shard method, which results in 1 shard per day, so this weekend will be one of the few opportunities to try to solo for shards)

Thanks! I will relay this information to my hungry hordes (all 3 of them). And otherwise just stick to my overall levelling plan. We did do a Wailing Caves run yesterday, to show our newest member the place and chests were dropping like a gentle rain. No shards but our Inquisitor made out like a bandit in adepts and gear. So my feeling is that you are probably correct on the drop chance. Thanks again for taking the time to put it into terms I can grasp even pre-coffee.
