  • Brewing Tradeskill Guide - hope this will help someone

This is a guide to building up the tradeskill of brewing as cheaply and quickly as possible. It’s not the only way to go, there are many other ways of skilling up, but I think this is the most straightforward way of building your brewing skill. It worked for me and I hope it will work for you too.

The cheapest way to start is to wait until you are level 15, do the Adventurers Stone quest – which you will be alerted to automatically when you reach level 15 – then go to Abysmal Sea using the Wayfarers Magus’s. In Abysmal Sea, seek out Yitimis Groglenog and hail him to pick up the quest to help him brew. This allows you to bring your brewing skill up to level 54 for free. When doing this quest, you need to give the items you make back to Yitimis Groglenog to receive more ingredients. This is quite tedious as you have to make many more items at each trivial level before you get the next step but it is free so be thankful!

All items that you can make in Everquest using tradeskills have a trivial value. What does trivial mean? This is the level at which the item becomes trivial for you to make, meaning that when you have achieved this level, you will get a message telling you that you can no longer advance your brewing skills by making this item. Once you reach that level, you need to move on to something of a higher trivial level to continue advancing your skills. Conversely, if something you want to make has a trivial level below your current skill level, you will have a better chance of making the item without failing. It’s an occupational hazard in tradeskills that some of your combines will fail. Stick with it though.

A note about the brewing window – you can skip this part if you are experienced in using tradeskills containers. When you click on the brew barrel, the brewing window will open. When you first start, you may not have any recipes in there. To find out, type the thing you’ve been asked to make into the search box and click search. If nothing comes up, click the experiment box above the ingredients grid. This will allow you to put the items you are combining into the grid. Press combine. If you are lucky, you will find the item you’ve made on your cursor. You will also be told that you have learned a new recipe. Close the brewing window and click on the brew barrel again. Now type in the name of the thing you have just made and press search. You will see it come up in the window with the level it trivials at.

The best part is that you will see the ingredients you are holding in your inventory appear in the window. The items must be on your character, it won’t work if they are in the bank! If you have the item, it will show green but if you are missing something, it will be red. If you have all the items, click combine and off you go. This is a huge time saver as you don’t have to pick up each item and put it into the container individually.

When you are experimenting with a new recipe, you may not get a successful combine on your first attempt. If this happens, keep putting the ingredients into the experiment window until you do.

Now, before continuing, if you have Prophesy of Ro expansion, pop to West Freeport and outside in the newbie killing zone is Event Coordinator Baublie Diggs. She has a quest for tradeskills (Beginner Brewer Test) which is worth checking out. Hail her to begin. You are given a bunch of things to make and return to Judge Marion Teld'Mare who stands next to her. Once you’ve done this, you get a Beginner Brewer Trophy which evolves with you as you build your skills. It gives you a basic one percent skill modifier when you first get it but this will get higher as long as you put it in your primary or secondary slot when brewing. You can also summon an Artisan Satchel which is a large, weight reduced bag. It’s temporary but this can be useful if you get encumbered easily. Also, when you take these bags to Jolum in the Bazaar, you get an Essence, and can combine the Essence in a distillery or brew barrel to get a permanent weight-reducing bag specific to brewing. You can only have one of these at a time but they can be very useful.

Next, return to Abysmal sea and find Tasec Dreeng, Duath Untez or Yoen Ormard. Buy several stacks of Fishing Grubs for a few coppers each and the same amount of water flasks which cost around 1 silver each – you are going to make Fetid Essence. One point to note, having lots of empty backpacks will help you load up with ingredients and cycle through the process of making your goods much more quickly.

Fetid Essence trivials at 122 so keep making it until you reach this level. If you’re lucky, selling Fetid Essence back to the merchants should get you almost as much as the cost to make it. This will depend to some extent on your charisma but you shouldn’t lose too much, even with the inevitable failures. Alternatively, you could check in the Bazaar in Plane of Knowledge to find out what Fetid Essence sells for on your server. This could be profitable as it is used for other things.

The next step is to make Faydwer Shaker. This is a bit more expensive to make but again, all the ingredients can be bought from vendors in Abysmal Sea. Dray Cuves and Galidinus Corkpopper sell all the ingredients you need and are in the room with the brew barrel. Faydwer Shaker trivials at 188. Buy several stacks of Dwarven Ale, Elven Wine, Mead and Gnomish Spirits from Dray Cuves and the same amount of casks from Galidinus Corkpopper. Combine these in the brew barrel.

When you combine these successfully, you will get the Faydwer Shaker plus four bottles. You can sell these bottles back to the vendors for a couple of copper or if you have the space, keep them for using later as many recipes require bottles. If you fail on the combine, you’ll get the four bottles and also a cask back but the other ingredients will be consumed. You can sell the Faydwer Shaker back to the vendors for a small amount of gold. You won’t make any money on this combine and will probably lose around eight to ten platinum so be prepared for this.

The next step is to make Minotaur Hero’s Brew which trivials at 248. Buy the following ingredients in these ratios:-

    • 20 (one stack) of Yeast and a Cask from Galidinus Corkpopper
    • 40 (two stacks) of Short Beer and Water Flask from Tasec Dreeng, Duath Untez or Yoen Ormard
    • 60 (three stacks) of Malt from Galidinus Corkpopper

Combine these in a brew barrel to make Minotaur Hero’s Brew. This combine returns two bottles when you are successful and a cask and two bottles when you are unsuccessful. You can sell the bottles and the Minotaur Hero’s Brew back to the vendors. You won’t make money on this combine although you should lose less than you did on the Faydwar Shaker.

You are now 248 – congratulations!

From now on, it’s expensive or quite difficult to find the ingredients to progress your skill. Sometimes you can find items on vendors that have been sold by higher level players or maybe buy ingredients in the bazaar but this can prove costly and frustrating. If you have a high level character, you can forage, fish or kill your way to get some of the ingredients but it can be a long process. The following recipe is quite expensive but most of the stuff is easily available.

Kaladim Constitutional trivials at 335. This requires the following ingredients:-
    • a strange dark fungus – Ground spawn in North Kaladim
    • bottle – you had loads of these earlier as a by product of making other things. You can also buy them for a couple of copper from brewing vendors everywhere.
    • celestial essence – this is a no fail baking combine. You will need a mixing bowl which costs a couple of platinum and is sold in Abysmal Sea by Phranz Tyudin, Tylida Eraldi and Ordin Wheasly. There are multiple recipes for this but the easiest way to make it is to combine Celestial Solvent (2 gold) and Scent of Marr (2 platinum) which are both vendor purchased in Abysmal Sea from Viliani I`Xvoyt and Uiyaniv Tu`Vrozix.
    • cork – vendor purchased in Abysmal Sea from Tialechaety Orrthemech, Lita Hegeway and Skelontorim Orrthemech for a couple of copper.
    • corking device – this is made by Gnomes. The best thing for this is to either find a nice Gnome who will make one for you or check out the Bazaar. On Bertoxxulous it is currently costing around 2k platinum. The good thing is you only need one as it is returned after each combine, no matter if it’s successful or not.
    • fermented yarrow – this is a brewing combine trivial at 74. Yarrow is available to buy in Abysmal Sea from Jorlan Hegeway at 26 platinum. Combine this with a water flask to make fermented yarrow. This combine yields six.
    • soda water – this is a brewing combine trivial at 58. Soda is available to buy in Plane of Knowledge from Caden Zharik in theSouthern trader building. Combine this with a water flask to make soda water.
    • underfoot mushroom – Ground spawn in North Kaladim

Combine all these ingredients in a brew barrel and you will get four Kaladim Constitutionals – if you’re lucky! Expect to fail quite a bit of the time but stick at it and you will skill up. This is a miraculous drink and gives some stats so may sell in the bazaar.

    Good luck!

        If you don't mind fishing .... http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_...r=080030900000

Blindfish Pale Ale - Extremely cheap to make, and trivial is 295. A HUGE benefit of this combine, is you will catch a fair amount of Albino Crawfish, another cheap recipe to bring your baking to 243(or 245) for very cheap.

But Brodder... aren't the Shakers, MHB's, and KC's your creations? So I guess you could say he is already following your advise.
