  • FAILING TRIVIALS/be warned.

Today 8/18 at 5pm . Was a new low for me with stupid trivial failures. I managed to fail 3 trivial combines on making a howlite of pure haste. Normally i would accept one fail.. Even two . But three fails in a row seems rediculous given that im working with 345 alchemy skill and all aa's .Not only did the 50% rule not kick in but neither did salvage for any of the three failures. Total cost for making one aug was 600k after my smither had three fails in a row making black gold inlays, on the same day to boot. Yes before anyone makes a comment im {complaining} and in my opinion rightly so .. I would suggest to any TS to stop making combines for the time being. I filled out a feedback and a petition even though I know its pointless.
Good luck to all making attempts.

Rough data says the success rate on aug combines is capped at about 70%.

The odds of failing 3 times in a row would then be 2.7%.

Thats low... but not stop the presses low. Bad luck for you.

Also there is no such word as smither. One who engages in blacksmithing is simply a smith.

          1. You can complain if you like, but please watch your language, this is a family friendly site

1a. Complaints are more appropriate in the Primal Scream Forum.

          2. Just because your skill is greater than the recipe's trivial, does NOT mean it will never fail. Only recipes whose trivial is 200 points below your RAW skill level (not modified), will become "no-fail". Any other time, you CAN and WILL occasionally fail.

          3. 3 failures in a row may be unpleasant, but not impossible, and it's happened before, and will happen again.

          Better luck next time!

Alchemy mastery gives a 50% chance of creating anything. So what your saying being 345 alchemy gives me only 20% more chance of making an aug.. Where Do you get these numbers?

            Yeah rough data ..

The minimum failure rate is unfortunately applied after the mastery effect is put in. The net effect of this is that the masteries become useless once you're at or near max skill (300). And yes, this does mean that the SOE supplied descriptions of the masteries are false and misleading.

He's saying that the rate is CAPPED at 70% (based on empirical evidence). That means, that even if you somehow managed to have an Alchemy skill of 5,000,000 and had Alchemy Mastery 25, you would still have a 70% rate at best.

Alchemy Mastery doesn't give you an automatic 50% chance to succeed. It lowers your fail rate (before caps) by 50%. What this means is that if your success rate calculates to -183.5% (trivial 300 item, skill 0), your failure rate (283.5%) is halved (141.75%). This makes your success rate -41.75%, which is then capped on the low end at 5%.

So, with Alchemy Mastery 3, at skill 0, attempting a trivial 300 item, you have a 5% chance, not 50%.

The upper cap is normally 95%, but it can be set for each recipe if they want. In this case, it is lower...I'm not sure if that 70% mark is correct or not, but that was what he was implying.

Also suddenly having an abysmal failure rate on augs. Tonight was the first time I tried to make any since the "network maintenance" patch a couple days ago.

Three successes, five failures. Sure it's within the odds, but it hasn't been this hard to make augs since the last screwup patch when trivials were ninja-raised.

                  Something is broken imo.

Since the patch, I've succeeded 3 of 3 augment combines.

Prior to the patch, I'm in the 80% range for probably about 40 attempts. I've had days where it's 5 for 5 successes and I've had days where it's 5 for 5 failures.

Plain and simple, the numbers you are talking about are WAY too low to prove anything. My numbers are, too. I can't say that something didn't change, but I can say that you have shown nothing out of the ordinary. 3/8 on augments? Not good luck at all...but you could easily have failed all 8.

If 70% is the accepted cap (which I am not sure of at all), then failing 5 in a row would be a .243% chance...about 1 in 400. Yeah, unlikely...but FAR from impossible.

It more likely to be 80% than 70%. 70% was the pre DoN max success rate for cutting augments (252 skill, jcm3). But the Alchemy/Poison making and Smithing trivials are lower (so the devs intended those combines to succeed more) And the Pre-DoN max success for those (not counting the swarm orb) was ~80%.
