  • Broken Pottery Wheel And How I Became A Patsy For EQ Devs

It was a beautiful crisp Sunday afternoon and while my guild was off raiding I resolved to do some combines and get my Journeyman Artisan title finished.

I ran through PoK, buffed some guildmates and was running to main bank to cut some augments. I spy Lugga the Cook what appears to be a player character but a /who shows no such player. I hail her, put on my various Expert or Journeymna tradeskill titles and ask if I can help her.

She is a GM controlling the player and asks in /roleplay-speak if I would make some items for her. I figure it would be cooking materials or such but she aks for UNFIRED pottery items. I get a list of 8 items, some trivial, some with 300+ trivials and she promises me a nice reward.

I look at the list,m assemble everything I need except for the high trivial items and stalk off to the closest pottery wheel.

    Combine. Fail.
    Combine. Crash.

    Hmmm.

    Reboot.

    Combine. Fail.
    Combine. Crash.

    Repeat 4 more times.
Sigh. I run off to the PC and she is gone.

    I run to Shadowhaven.

    Combine. Fail.
    Combine. Crash.

I resolve to forget the quest after checking the PC and seeing she is no longer up. I go the Thurgadin and do 200 or so smithing and tailoring combines with the usual success, failures and skill ups.

I spy the pottery wheel in Thurgadin and since I have my materials on me still...

    Combine. Fail.
    Combine. DNC.
    Combine. Crash.

I think that the pottery wheels were encountering confirmed problems and the lure of a quest NPC for me to try the combines made me their unwitting and crash-prone fall guy. They were too lazy to test/fix/stress test the pottery wheels and hung a juicy promise in front of my nose and I followed them blithely along.

    Sigh.

Sounds like you were a victim of sloppy coding and GMs who come up with neat ideas for GM Events but dont test them beforehand.

      Test Server, Perhaps?

I got the same quest, from the same in-PoK troll, and I gathered all of the parts together to do all of the combines for all eight items.

I did all the items in one run, and had no failures, and no crashes. Go figure.

As a reward, I got a Devastating Maul and a half stack each of pearls, emeralds, topaz, star rubies and diamonds. A very good payoff, indeed.
