  • EVB's, No skillups in 20 stacks ?!?!

    Title says it all.
    I have 214 in smithing, went from 212 - 214 doing EVB's.
Smithing is ONLY tradeskill currently above 200.
I have gone through 20 STACKS of coldain velium temper, that is 400 combines, without ONE skillup. I know trivial is 222 and I haven't seen message yet.

    WTF?!?!
I have heard of bad streaks, but come on!
This has been over the last 2 weeks as I have farmed my own velium. I have done these combines at different times of day, usually 2 - 4 stacks at a time.

    Any advice?

My longest streak without a skill up was with EVB's and it was a ridiculously long streak. I know from other threads here that each tradeskill has a difficulty modifer. But I'm wondering if each item doesn't also have a skill up modifier that makes some items give less skill ups.

Only 800 more combines without a skillup to go before you are the record holder for most combines without a skill up. Keep at it!

My second to last attempt: 110 combines, no skill-up. (INT 290)

              Last attempt: 48 combines, 3 skill-ups. (INT 315)

I am so hoarding stuff until I get to 355 INT before combining again.

My personal worst was 238 smithing combines without a skillup. 400 is not the worst I have heard of.

Going 400 attempts without a skillup should not happen. Since the chance for success is 1 of 20 (chance of failure being 19/20) the probability of 400 failures is (19/20) to the 400 power, which is one chance in 813,000,000.

If you assume the skillup formula is correct this means that the RNG (random number generator) does not actually generate random numbers.

Zeralenn's 238 straight failures would be a 1 in 200,000 chance if a true random number generator was being used.

Put in your actual stats, 214 skill, 222 triv, 290 int, assuming you have a geerlock and that smithing is in the easy category (y=2 which is the currently accepted value) and used http://www.eqtraders.com/calculators/main.php to get the skillup percentage.

400 failures is a 1 in 606,000,000 chance. Hope you get the good side of the RNG after this.

                      Ummm

I know this goes without saying, but paying for a C5, Boon of the Garou, or STR buff is definitely worth it. Boon adds 100 DEX, C5 adds 28 to WIS and INT and the level 49 (IINM) Shaman STR buff adds 67.

                        1. DEX has NOTHING to do with smithing.
                        2. The skill up formula uses the HIGHEST of EITHER Wis OR Int OR Str to determine if you receive a skill up from a non-trivial combine.

My rate has been, on average, around 1 point per 40-45 combines with EVBs....I am tired of farming velium =(

I did 36 combines yesterday and went from 202 to 205 smithing at 319 int. It's cheaper than LDoN armour so I'm sticking with it
