  • Options for the poor?

    Hi there,

    I've recently returned to EQ after a break of over a year. My tailoring is sitting at 168 and I'd like to raise it. My main issue is not time, it's money. I'm in no hurry to raise it but I don't have thousands of plat to throw at it. I prefer to gradually gather ingredients as I XP and do combines when I can.

    I'm a woodelf druid (Tunare) and level 53. I've been XP'ing off the Wyverns in CS but I daren't burn the hides on velious combines at such a low skill level. What would be my best options for the least cash?

    Many thanks.

    Well, your first option if you have Legacy of Ykeesha is dyed ribbons. Those will take you to 187. If you lack Ykeesha, you can opt for acrylia stuff, but farming hides will prove to be the biggest PITA you've ever encountered. However, with time invested, it's pretty much completely free, except for about 5p per combine on tannin materials. Acrylia depends on the hide, flawless or superb. One set rivials at 188 max, the other at 240ish max.

    Should you wish to invest some money, Solstice Robe combines are a route to 250. However, they succeed a bit more than is economical past 210, and are generally a poor skillup route since the high trivial means a lesser chance to get skillup. But, at 50p per fail max, you can easily gather a few hundred combines worth over time and do a large run. They cost closer to 350 per robe if you succeed, but you're very unlikely to succeed more than 1 in 20 at that low a skill. Still, one out of every 20 will cost you a gem studded chain's value.

    You can also do cultral tailoring (Imbued Mithril stuff), but excellent sabertooth tiger hides are rather tedious to farm, being so nastily rare. And don't expect them to be cheap in the bazaar either. Cultral can bridge a gap from 215 trivial to about 228, paving way for better use of those velious hides you farm.

    That's about al your options for skillups that I can think of. Good Luck.

    Edit::

    Cultral Tailoring

    Ykeesha Dyed Ribbons

    Ceremonial Solstice Robes

    Acrylia Studded and Reinforced and other Luclin leather recipies.

      Go with gold/platinum ribbons until you run out of disposable cash, then do superb rockhopper hide armor to 188 (save the flawless pelts), then make flawless rockhopper hide armor until you run out of pelts, then give othmir fur caps a try. I'm not sure how well you can solo othmir, but when I keep their camps cleared, I get about 1000pp per hour, not including the value of the othmir furs.
