  • Omens of War

I'm usually the one who is cheering when a new expansion is announced but this time I'm not so sure if I should be happy or I should cry.

So, MY TURN to say the fabled words:

    *drumroll*

"But...but....I haven't beaten the one two expansions ago....yet...."

    Thank you, I'm done

    Hmm, Omens of War, acronym?

    OoW or OW!

I have a bad feeling about this..
    Draggar De'Vir
    92 Assassin - Povar

    Xzorsh
57 Druid of Tunare - Povar
47 Druid of Tunare - Lockjaw

Hark! Who is that, prowling along the fields! It is Draggar De'VIr, hands clutching two hardened pitas! He cries gutterally: "In the name of Thor the Mighty, I hereby void your warranty, and send you back to God!!!"

I frequent 5 different messageboards (this one, EQCleric, The Runes, My Guild, and My Server).

There is almost ZERO positive feedback on this.

Time to update those resumes, guys.

And just to head off the "But they still have engine bugs from the engine update"

I do not want Artist or Producers touching the engine code. And they need to have something for them to do! They can't pay them to sit around... At this stage of the expansion, the developers (coders) are not needed so they can continue to work on the engine bugs while the artists get busy with the next thing

Agreed. Creators and Coders are two different classes of people. And they should not be doing each other's jobs.

Coders can do their thing. And in my opinion, they've done a good job so far (though the graphics engine fixing is far from done).

Creators should not only do their thing... they should shepherd what they've already done. Cue the refrain.... "Fix old content."

Reading the description for Omens of War made me, one, want to send an email or snailmail letter to SOE every day, begging them to let me xfer my chars off of Sullon, and two, for three consecutive seconds, I thought about cancelling my accounts. Right here and now.

You see that thing about "guild tribute"? It's friggen hard to get into a good raiding guild as is. This is going to make it that much more impossible for a 'tiny person' like me to see content that is going on five expansions old.

We complained that no one goes to many zones anymore... then they made Hot Spots. I was very surprised; a way to please the PLers, and have people xp in zones they may not have thought about before. Shared bank/plat was a great idea. /autoinventory is gorgeous. The new graphics engine has helped soooo much.

This cancels it all out. For every step up the frog takes, he falls back two.

I'm not even angry anymore. Being angry to these people is pointless. This is just... saddening.

I'm in the same spot. I'm not mad, its not "my" game. I'm in their world. But man, its getting to be a rough neighborhood. Every day, there are fewer and fewer reasons to stay. And now, soon, there are going to be a couple of new neighborhoods opening soon. Maybe the grass is greener. Maybe it isn't. My account is paid for 3 months. I'll see what happens. But I'm not giving them a dime for another expansion at this point.

I do not want any more levels. I can't find the time to get all the AA's I want as it is.

Yup, it's their world and in their world I get the feeling those of my playstyle aren't particularly welcome or valued. I'll be honest, I'll never get Epic2 or even half of those shiny trinkets they pull out to attract buyers even if I did buy it. I am not the target audience and I don't think they don't want my kind as target audience so why should I care about GoD2: The Sequel? This lil' wabbit don't need to buy more locked carrot fields it can't enter.

it'd be a real easy fix.. have all them artists and devs work on 2 zones a month, that they release like they did Sol Temple and The Hole... then the people fixing the bugs wouldn't have to do an entire expansion at once.

PoP trivialized the entire game other than those zones, unbalancing EVERY mob not in PoP.. but at this point, i don't think they care at all.

                  Afterlife was right.

Here we go again. Always the naysayers before every expansion, but no one ever leaves, and when they do, they come back.

This is really beginning to sound like a broken record.

Yes, there are complaints, many of which are legitimate. I'm just curious why, if SOE is the big bad wolf it has been made out to be, why so many people keep playing.

You know, you can almost time the comments on this board about SOE.

Within 24 hours of any patch: Worst Patch Ever or They Broke Something *whine*

Within two days of any expansion being announced: WTF, there's more to be fixed! *whine*

Within a month of an expansion being released: Ooooh, look at the pretty loot!

The game is going to expand, it looks like every six months, give/take. Get used to it. Righteous indignation works once. After that, it's whining or hypocrisy. Take your pick.

You don't want it? Don't buy it.

Mad as hell and can't take it any more? Don't, and there's the door.

Yup couldn't agree more with you Phabos, We will get to hear the moaners and groaners complain for the next couple months until the expansion released and then they will be here complainin about the new bugs.

For the most part my guild is excited about the new expansion. I already pre-ordered. My only concern is that it will be hard for them to beat the quality of the last two expansion. GOD is second only to LDON as far as expansions go.

Just want to point out the irony of complaining about people complaining. Never fails, right before a patch or expansion announcement and right after a expansion release...folks will complain and then come the others complaining about them complaining.

                        *falls off her chair giggling*

The reason people don't leave the game even though it is no longer a game they want to play...is because they are too attached to their friends. And they are waiting for their friends to also say "I give up" and go with them to another game. It's VERY hard to step into a new "world" where you don't know anyone. So they stay, and wait for it to get so bad that they really can't take it anymore. Then that anger helps them to get over their nervousness. Kinda like changing jobs =)

At that I'd like to point out, a lot of our eqtraders friends HAVE moved on to other games. CoH, L2, FFXI. So those still waiting, have heart...you won't have to move to a "world" without having friends there waiting to play with you =)

Ya ... I was saddened to read OoW will be raising the level cap. The 5 levels of PoP already shrunk how much of the rest of the world was relevant - think how much a total of 10 levels will.

And it just increases the old struggle I've reciently found myself in - stay at 60 for the variety and soloing options, or level to 65 for the power and access? Level 70 maxes that gap a lot bigger, and will make it quite impossible to stay "around" the whole of my guild and friends, some of whom are low 50s, some of whom are max level. 50-65 was a spread that "worked" within the older system, not well, but its all xp-groupable and often can find mobs "reasonable" for everyone, and someone around 58-60 can LDoN with either end of the spectrum.

I used to feel like that, but I'm starting to feel a bit different. Most of the complaints I read pre-GoD have actually been relatively true. The complaining for OoW sounds like GoD complaints++, and for once I'm actually tending to agree with them, overall.

And sure, perhaps the overall rate of departure from EQ hasn't changed, but there have been a lot of high-profile departures during GoD's reign. Not just the Conquest and Afterlife departures, but things like Mage Compendium forum mods and respected members of the community at a number of boards. It feels kind of strange - "omg I'll cancel!" being such a common cry, but it seems for once people are actually carrying through.

Take a look at server populations sometime Phabos before you start your tirade.

Speaking for myself, I have 1 account cancelled, 1 account that will expire in a month, 2 that will expire in september and GoD on only 1 of those accounts.

Short of substantial fixes to the game, that's how it's going to be.

I think it's just bad timing really.

                              1. Casual gamers are turned off by GoD expansion. It's very tough, very unforgiving. There has already been news that the entire front end of GoD is going to be retuned to address this sometime in the near future.

                              2. Hard-core gamers have been trying to grind through GoD and it's buggy scripts, coding errors, and all kinds of problems with the zones deeper into GoD. They finally, just this week, fixed some broken scripting issue that apparently was keeping all the big raid guilds from advancing. Much like Rathe Council did in the past.

So, this week, when they have all kinds of bugs and issues from both hard-core and casual gamers in EQ, what do they do? They announce the next expansion of course!
