  • Fishing in GoD (and Abysmal) (For Chowderly quest)

    I have looked at the fishing table for GoD and it is true that it is possible to ONLY catch 6+ pound fish if you have a high skill, and though I can fix this, it will reduce the changes of some of the other mid sized fish overall.

    Basically it is a table that is
    item_1 = 12345 item_1_chance = X%
    item_2 = 12346 item_2_chance = Y%
    ETC

    The overall chance must = 100%

    So in order to add the smaller fish to the tables, I must rob some of the other fish of 1% of their chance. I will be leaving the chance for the larger fish alone, and this will affect the chance at the other mid sized fish.

    It's not really hard to creat a level 1 toon just for fishing smaller fishes. Or bug a friend who hasn't maxed fishing skill.

    IMO the fishing chance should be left as it is for now. Really no reason to change it. All I can suggest is an addendum to chowderly quest stating those with high fishing skill may need to find someone with lower skill to find the smaller fishes.

      Chowderly Quest and bug?

      I have found that in some cases the question of whether or not something has a bug in it varies according to who is asked. In this particular quest, I have to vote that the quest is bugged if the items cannot be acquired reasonably. Anyone with a high enough baking skill to pursue this may easily have a high enough fishing skill which renders it undoable.

      One simple answer is to make combines that convert larger fish and meats down to one lb variants or other measures as the various quests and recipes require. To suggest that leaving this in its current state is completely unacceptable. To explain one reason why is that many people have all 8 char slots for a given server in use and creating a new char is not an option. I have also tried to explain this to a GM who was running a live halfling competition.

      To further reitterate, those who have acquired higher skills should not be hampered by lower level fishing, foraging, etc requirements built into a quest. The only way this could possibly make any sense is if it is SOE's intention for the quest to only be available to lower level chars.

        making a level 1 alt to do your fishing is an option, but unless you can get a druid or wizard to port you, you won't be able to get to Natimbi/Abysmal Sea using teh Magus since you have to be level 14/15 top do teh dventurer Stone quest.

        I think Ngreth's fix is reasonable, shaving a few % off teh other larger fishies to allow teh smaller ones to be fished by high-skill toons seems fine to me

          Fished in Abysmal Sea last night preparing for a short baking run . I used one stack of bait and gained 2 points in fishing (147). Along with the many 6-11 pound tuna and crabs, I hauled in one 4 lb tuna, one 1 lb tuna, and one 1 lb crab. I did not think to record the exact number and types of all items caught but I caught enough to do 160 souffles and was nice to see the 4 lb tuna.

            What about making the quest require a 6 pounder, not a 4 pounder?

              Seems everyone overlooked something: crab traps. In the past I've found sandals, rusty daggers, and assorted tuna and crabs in the traps up for 5 or 6 pounds range.

              Make sure EQ isn't running they seems to mess up map if you edit them behind the program. Open abysmal_1.txt in your map folder using text program and add these 3 lines:
              P 389.3882, -838.7564, -519.5630, 0, 0, 240, 1, crab_trap
              P 238.6007, -541.3456, -445.8393, 0, 0, 240, 1, crab_trap
              P -276.9055, -467.6273, -479.2774, 0, 0, 240, 1, crab_trap
              It will show the loc of 3 crab traps.
