I (65 wiz, 345 research skill) was getting this when trying a combine on "Spell: Yaulp VIII Rk. II". Are those spells somehow locked by lvl, class or progression?

Are you sure you were trying Yaulp VIII and not Yaulp VII?

Yaulp VIII is a TBS spell and although it may be possible to do the combine on the Test server (there is speculation that the next expansion will make TBS spells Researchable), it is currently not a spell that can be Researched.

Yaulp VII is a routine level 69 spell, and the only way to get the message you describe trying to Research that one is if you do not have the OOW expansion.

If you are indeed trying to make Yaulp VIII and getting that message, it does indicate that it will be Researchable in two weeks, but as that expansion (and the tradeskill combines available in it) are not currently live, you would not be able to Research it until then.

Yep, I tried Yaulp VIII, Rk. II. I stumbled over the recipe on alla (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=65286) yesterday. Still the wording of the message bugged me a bit.

That is our new message to try and differentiate a "requirements" difference from a "Bad components" or "Need to learn it first" reason that you failed to make the combine.

That spell has a requirement that Underfoot be open. So while it is not directly you... You do not meet the requirements because you are in a world where underfoot has not launched (at least at the time you made this post)

Yes, and a number of people have been making the TBS spells and posting the recipes to this forum.

You don't even need to have the expansion to do the TBS research spells. I haven't even ordered the expansion yet and have already made and put up a dozen or so spells for sale.
