Wink Very nice Guide!!! my 2cp for N00b's like me.

Higher levels help a LOT(55+). What I do for all my toons (TSS req) i do all the trade skill tasks for any/all trade skill in Crescent Reach which gives you Triv 54 for FREE . Then I get the Trophy('s). Generally the trophy evolves to or beyond the skill mod of geerlok (and they don't stack) by the point when the combines get expensive. And I almost always unequipped the trophy and triv the combine again before going to the next combine. Generally the next combine will require more plat or farming or both.

    This is not necessary.

If you are 200 skill with a 5% mod (geerlok or journeyman trophy) your modified skill will be 210. You can have a modified skill of 210 and still gain skill ups and experience for your trophy (assuming its within the 100 point restriction) on any non-trivial combine above your RAW skill.

Another alternative, if you're already planning to fish in DoDh, is
    Mossmatt Mead(triv 268)
to bridge the gap between Minotaur Hero Brew and Fish Fungus Wine.

    Question

    Excellent Guide!

Since you seem to know about alchemy, cold you tell me if the recipe list posted elsewhere on this site is current or out of date? I posted on the alchemy boards, and none of the 39 peeps who read my message seemed to know.

    Thanks,

    Deb

This info is incorrect, items used for the " Expert Mechanist Test "

Create 1 Mana Battery - Class One using tradeskills. (Deliver 1)
Create 4 Stalking Probe using tradeskills. (Deliver 4)
Create 1 Base Prototype using tradeskills. (Deliver 1)
    Create 2 Nantik's Anti-gravity Unit using tradeskills. (Deliver 2)
Create 1 Collapsed Mortar And Pestle using tradeskills. (Deliver 1)
Create 1 Grandmaster Tinker's Spanner using tradeskills. (Deliver 1)
Create 1 Clockwork Watchman Gauntlets using tradeskills. (Deliver 1)
Create 1 Collapsed Toolkit using tradeskills. (Deliver 1)
Create 1 Steam-powered Piston using tradeskills. (Deliver 1)
Create 1 Anizok's Gauze Press using tradeskills. (Deliver 1)

Need to remove the ( 1 ) Steam-Powered Piston and replace it with a Collapsed Gnomish Recharging Kit. I found out the hard way after making a few pistons hoping the requirement was off, but ended up petitioning since all sites with this quest information says it requires the piston. GM was able to confirm that is wrong and that it dose indeed need the recharging kit.

Expert Mechanist Test completed 3-15-08 and Expert Trophy obtained.

The binding powders were a FAR cheaper method for my progression to 300 in Research, and I got to do a second combine with each successful first combine, so I basically got 2 skill-up attempts per powder.

I never spent more than 100pp per powder and much less most times in addition to the drops I got in group that no one else wanted.

Good luck in your journey towards the Ethereal Quill

For my own purposes I've updated the spell research section. Hope it can help you!

    Spell Research
    Quick Trivial List
    Tradeskill Trophy Quest
    Researcher Charm

    0 – 54 Research Freebie: Akila’s Studies
    55 - 62 Training rune
    63 - 95 Journeyman Rune
    96 - 102 Oil of Vitrol - Save all.
    103 - 112 LoY Swatches (Req. skill: 101)
    113 - 144 Parchment Solution
    145 - 174 Fine Parchment solution
    175 - 203 Vellum Parchment solution
    204 - 216 Fine Vellum Parchment solution
    217 - 243 Runic Parchment Solution
    244 - 262 Any spell thats 262 trivial
    263 - 292 Any spell thats 292 trivial
    293 - 300 Any spell thats 292+ trivial

Alternative (TSS) from 55 to 103: (Cheap and plentiful if PLing in Blightfire Moors, or Stone Hive. Spells give second chance to skillup)
    55 Raw Supple Hide
    56-63 Raw Runic Hide
    64-74Raw Fine Runic Hide
    75-87Raw Supple Runic Hide
88-103(more rare)Raw Fine Supple Runic Hide
Alternative (TSS) to 262: Researcher Ceramic Clay (involves farming Drake Wing Webbing)
Alternate to 300: Glowing Energeiac Rod
    Alternative(Post TSS) level restricted:
The following patth is available but requires a level 60 INT caster to “focus spellcaster’s essence” at the higher trivials. This path has modest cost and two chances per drop for skill up.
Crude Enchanted Spell Parchment (Crude Binding Powder - Triv 58)
Makeshift Enchanted Spell Parchment (Makeshift Binding Powder - Triv 83)
Elementary Enchanted Spell Parchment (Elementary Binding Powder - Triv 118)
Modest Enchanted Spell Parchment (Modest Binding Powder - Triv 152)
Simple Enchanted Spell Parchment (Simple Binding Powder - Triv 192)
Enchanted Spell Parchment (Binding Powder - Triv 232)
Refined Enchanted Spell Parchment (Refined Binding Powder - Triv 272)
Intricate Enchanted Spell Parchment (Intricate Binding Powder - Triv 312)
Elaborate Enchanted Spell Parchment (Elaborate Binding Powder - Triv 352)
Ornate Enchanted Spell Parchment (Ornate Binding Powder - Triv 392)
Runed Enchanted Spell Parchment (Rune Binding Powder - Triv 432)

I’ve updated to include new stuff and bring more in line with the other sections.
After scanning guide 4 and this guide I have this to say:
Yes, some may not like CR, but the same can be said of all the other TS freebies.
I suggest continued use of Runic Partchment solution as a cheaper alternative to the Fine Runic Partchment solution that was suggested.
I call for the elimination of EQ levels 1-50.

    Suggested alternative for baking

Another good laternative for baking to 282 is Boar Chops:

Baking Components: Boar Meat, Garnish, Spices
    In: Tanaan Oven, Collapsible Spit
    Yield: 1
    Trivial at: 282

Nice simple recipe with meat farmed in PoP, very like the Jord Meat Pie. What with the recent flag removal, there are going to be more people xping in PoP than ever.

I know this is going to be a very stupid question to all of you so I apologize in advance. I've recently returned to EQ after an extended absence and there are many things I've forgotten. So.. here goes.. is there a quest or something I need to do to progress past skill level 300? I've tried searching the boards, but I can't seem to find my answer. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Alternative Spell Research
Using binding powders after the trade skill quest referenced earlier.

There is a lot of farming for the binding powders. However, turning those parchments made with the binding powders into a one charge spell scroll will get you to the next powder without having to farm as much. The bonuses of this method are.
    1) Cheapest method if you farm instead of buying on the bazaar.
    2) The spell scrolls created by these parchments are 1 charge, can be traded and All/All. Thus anyone can use them and you can even sell either to the merchants or other players.

    0 – 54 Research Freebie: Akila’s Studies

All the spells made from these parchments use the same two ingredients with the enchanted parchment.
Quill of the Arcane and an ink specific to the type of spell.

~ of Fire Strike - Ink of Ro

No. Well, not your raw skill anyway. At present, 300 is the highest you can get any tradeskill.

It is possible to increase your modified skill by completing one of the trophy quests. With much perseverance, you can get a modified skill of 345. (300 + 15%)

There are also some dropped tradeskill items that will give you as much as a 15% bonus. A fair amount of them are found in the high end zones of the Luclin expansion. The FAQ has a nice list of tradeskill mods.

    Red face

Thanks! I'll get to work on the trophy quests. I guess I just keep seeing these 400+ trivials and I thought they upped the skill cap.

I kinda assumed that the spells will be made if you did the hard expensive part of getting the binding powders.

    Thanks for the list though.

What I'm doing (or trying to do anyway) is not making any of the spells until I've trivialed on the parchments.

Since you're going to have to make many parchments (and thusly need many binding powders) why not make as many of them count as possible?

Save your parchments and wait until you hit trivial for making the parchments.. then use the parchments to maket he spells and try to trivial on the spells you can make with those parchments before moving onto the next parchment.

Of course, if you can't wait or don't have the bank space (or alt space) then do as you need to. But I just like to maximize the chances of skillups with as few binding powders as I can.

Edit: Making this more clear what I mean

With Simple Binding Powder, I make Simple Enchanted Parchments and put into bank. I wait until i've trivialed (192) on the parchments. By then I have 300+ parchments in the bank. Then, and Only Then do i start working on simple spells to max out trivial on them before going to regular binding powders.

Or, If I made the spells as I went along.. one day I find 100 powders, I make 100 parchments and hit 189 skill. I make the spells and hit 192 skill. Now I have to make more parchments to continue (as I find more powders) but I get no skill ups from here on out for making parchments. They are just a trivial sub combine now.

    Solstice robes

I still find that with the prices of most of the tradeskill items on my server(Druzzil ro) that Solstice robes are fairly simple and the only difficult to obtain item required is imbued emeralds. For those with this spell (tunare Druids and Clerics) or those who have access to them, this is a very viable path.

I personally am doing these post 212 but would recomend them for arround 240- 252 range.

I know there is a JC quest in Cresent Reach. Does anyone know if there are similar quests for the other tradeskills in Cresent Reach?

    Thanks
