    Complete Tradeskill Guide 4.0 (rev.7/2007)

This guide is now OUTDATED. Please check the stickied guide at the top of this forum for the most recent version. -- Kyroskrane

    Complete Tradeskill Guide 4.0

Well, Secone has left the building and I've spent some time updating Secone's outdated tradeskill guide with additional links, updates and alternatives to make my revision the most comprehensive skillup guide around. So, credit goes to Secone for the original guide that this is based on. EQ has changed and will continue to change and I'll keep this guide as up to date as possible.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enjoy this revised guide and continue using it. If you like it, feel free to Donate.

The following is a recommended path for skilling up. As with all items requiring foraging or farming, if you have the plat to buy items for sale in the Bazaar or the means to set up a Buyer toon in the bazaar, it could decrease or eliminate your farming time dramatically or even entirely. Also, use your own best judgment for your own skill up path. For example, if you're rolling in the dough and can afford to buy all your items instead of farming them, then it might be faster for you to stick to one of the higher trivial path items rather than switching from making one item to another. On the other hand, if you're strapped for plat and have all the time in the world to farm items and maybe those items just happen to drop from mobs that will yield you experience and levels, then maybe a farming route is more for you. In such cases, if farming is required, it has been noted to the best of my knowledge and personal experience. Finally, the freebie skillup Gates of Discord quests have been included for those interested in being able to self refine GoD drops.

    Nice work......

A couple of notes from a quick glance.

Magnetic (smithing) will not go to 300, high is 282 from memory.

RE: Tailoring... Epictheicks belts are listed twice in same progression.. intentional? (213 to 252 listing makes sense... listed under 188 to 210 also).

Thanks for spotting that error in magnetic trivial. Corrected it. It's been a while since I maxed smithing and was just going from my hazy memory. Also, the switch from the power belts to ethereal silk swatches for a short break was intentional, since the corathus entrails required for initial combines aren't quite as easily acquired if farmed, even if bought with a 24/7 buyer toon.

for tailoring, i have been making Stitched Energeiac Cloth Cap (http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=27750) / Sculpted Energeiac Leather Cowl (http://www.eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=27636) for a couple days now.. the downside to this combine is there is also two checks on jewelcraft (or tinkering) at triv 223, so you'll need jewelcraft or tinkering to make the energeiac leather armors.

triv 223 for those, main cost is the sunshard pebble (bazaar) and the pure copper ignot (barren coast vendor). the helm/bracer takes 1 pebble/ignot but the sleeves and up start to use 2 , chest legs 3 i'm guessing.. so starts to cost a more with those. the sunshard pebbels are cheaper in the bazaar than the cora entrains on my server at the moment

also the helmets sell back to vendors for 154plat each so not you get to make some plat back immediately if you so choose.. i prefer that over trying to sell the stuff in bazaar.

    Sunshard items

I used Sunsahrd for skill up s for a while -- and very quikcly decidede that the chance of a skill up with them seemed significantly less that with other options.

I have a guildie that noted the same concern.

For baking, Batwing Crunchies (#2127) trivial at 46 (it costs a couple plat but is faster than the freebie)
Then Fish Fillet (#2192) trivial at 82.
Both these can easily be made with PoK (and elsewhere) vendor sold stuff.

My question is the tradeskill quest in abysmal sea vs normal often quicker skill ups...would you be able to do the OOW conversions that would then be needed or would you have to go to the tradeskill people in abysmal sea to get the conversions done OR if you do only one of the tradeskill quests in Abysmal sea would you then be able to do ALL the OoW conversions?

    RE: Abysmal Sea Quests

The various NPC's in AS are easy and free skill up paths.

Doing the quest allows you to refine the GoD (not OoW) Raw Materials, that you may need or can use in tradeskill paths (Jewelry especially).

    This help, Strokker?

the skill up rate seemed fine for me making the energeiac armor. in fact for tailoring it seemed much more frequent than when i was doing othmir fur. Remember that like most things in EQ skill ups are Streaky.. you were probably in the middle of a streak that produced No skill ups when you were doing the sunshard combines.

I am curious as to why not the Crescent Reach tradeskill training quests?

It is also an option for spell research as one exists for spell research there.

Because the zone design for Crescent Reach sucks and people hate going there. Oh, wait. Maybe its just me.

Really though. Dont the designers have some kind of "lessons learned" where they pass the knowledge of their mistakes on to future generations of designers help them not repeat them? Elevators should be mentioned.

    RE; Crescent Reach

The elevator in CR is annoying for the running back and forth to me.

Also -- do the free CR tasks allow (flag) you to refine GoD raw materials?

If not -- another reason to do the AS ones instead.

I don't like CR very much either. Far more npcs there means I'd have to memorize more of who sells what, espoecially since find featurew has never worked. With Abysmal Sea, it's easier to get around plus far less lags and no killer elevator.

The benefit to the AS freebie compared to CR is the ability to refine the raw materials. I would not call AS any easier to get around than CR. You simply have to take a little time to learn the layout for EITHER zone. Also, CR offers a larger supply of materials because it has more vendors. To me that is a plus and most of the tradeskill vendors are named better, imo. (Baker for baking, Potter for pottery, etc.)

It is an alternative to consider as CR is also easier to get to at lower levels than AS.

I like CR (and had to learn vendor locations) mainly because it is the only all-in-one zone for spell research and making AAAA's. Yes, the elevator sucks, though honestly the one time I had a lag spike and fell off the boat in Abysmal was probably more annoying than every time I fell off the elevator combined.
And just in terms of low level skill ups.. the CR quests are much, much faster than the the Abysmal quests (because you can cheat and skip ahead).

    AS vs CR

We are talking about the freebie tasks here, not TS in general.

CR may have more supplies, but with the freebie tasks, the NPC GIVES you the items you need... for free.

The AS tasks flag you to refine GoD raw materials and as far as I know, the CR ones do not.

So -- choose the "faster" skill ups with no benefit in CR... or do the AS skill ups for the GoD materials flag.

Another reason I have taken to playing on The combine server...no CR as of yet, we have heard rumors of these fantastic lands but put it down to too much down time in the local taverns....

And my earlier question was do you have to do the TS quests in abysmal sea in order to refine GoD materials, and if you do not do them then the only recourse left is to get the TS queat givers to refine them for you ...right?

Foraging path for Alchemy to 300

I would like to point out that Nodding Blue Lilies can be foraged in Dreadlands, providing an alternate foraging path to 300 for Alchemy.

Correct. You can just hand them the stuff and they will refine it themselves.

Unless you are planning to refine large quantities, you are better off letting the npcs refine them.
4-5 stacks (varies) to get 2 every time
~3 more stacks before you sometimes get a third (this is when you can start to make up your deficit)
20 stacks before you always get 3
So around 10 stacks before you break even with the NPC refine.
For many of the GoD refines you won't ever need to refine enough raw materials to make up the initial deficit of doing it yourself. Though it can be useful if you "skill up" using the easily acquired drops, in order to get a better return on the KT+ drops.

In Regarding CR or AS. All my tradeskillers live in CR now they have made it way to convient to TS there over any where else. All the l similar vendors are grouped together and that makes it incredilbly easy to TS in CR. The Elevators really do Suck and I'll be a happy TSer when the undiscovered ramps between the levels are finally uncovered. On my old system I would spend 10 minutes or more just trying to ride an elevator up to the 2nd level for anything. My new system does not lag at all in cr thankfully but still will be estactic when there is something other than the elev to get between levels in CR. I have a Researcher and a Shammy that almost never leave CR nad my main heads there I am doing any TSing on him.

    This is just my 2cp.
