don't think they are on any tables in TSS. Ogre not perfect!
These must drop somewhere in TSS zones. Where? I'm hoping Ngeth made the sulfur farming a little easier ala saltpeter in Undershore.

BTW...noticed a real price spike in sulfur lately. I don't think more people are doing research, I think instead it's because fewer people are killing in GE, Seb or Chardok to grind AA now that they are 71+.

This is the second posting I have noticed about Crystallized Sulfur. My toons are not very high so I play in the lower zones all the time and am finding this stuff so much I'm destroying it, I got like 4 stacks in the bank but alas no Saltpeter as there are only two places that drops PoI and Undershore < a supposedly 45 zone...HAH!>. It would be nice if saltpeter was more common of drop, but then the price gougers on Fennin Ro would not be able to make a profit...lol.Originally Posted by Sharrien

Hmmm! I wonder what else drops off the creep reapers? Let me guess, could it be crushbone pelts? No. Could it be bone chips? No. Ohh! I know clockwork gnome bolts! Although I can't think why lvl 70s would permacamp the reapers for them, can you?Originally Posted by Grenoble
Which is why if were to buy every single crystallized sulfur for sale in the bazaar (at prices ranging from 20-70pp) I still wouldn't have enough sulfur to use the hundreds of saltpeter people give me, or I find on npc merchants.Originally Posted by Canyar
Creep Reapers is camped 90% of the time. Almost every trip when I go to CC to do some spells researching there is 1 other person in the zone, and they are at that camp.
It was a serious fight to get that camp so I could do the Belfast mission for the instruction book (to make mechanoinstructions). I would often have to sit around for an hour or so and wait in line for the camp, hoping the person would leave soon.
Do you ever talk to the people camping the reapers? The vast majority of them are after bolts. Generally they are more than happy to sell or give away saltpeter. Many people who do that camp consider saltpeter to be worthless trash worthy of npc merchants or even the destroy button.
I can only guess at the reasons of it's recent scarcity, but all I know is that as of last night I am down to a single pathetic unit of crystallized sulfur. Lots of saltpeter and three stacks of smudged runic parchments sit idle....

If you can't find it for sale, you're probably not paying enough for it!
We used to be able to reliably get saltpeter from bazaar at about 40-50plat a few weeks ago, and now you can't even really get it even by sitting in buyer mode at 100 plat each lately.
Personally, I pay as much as 175 plat a piece for saltpeter. I'm sure this hurts for people who are still on the path to 300, but let's be realistic. Parchments are a lot easier to get now that people are chain farming lost notebook, so the price of those goes down as well. It just makes it even MORE important for a person to not sell their solutions if they are using them to skillup to 243.
This might not be true on all servers, but I also think that people *ARE* doing research more. On nameless for example, as I understand there were really only one or two people doing research consistently since DoDH. The spells were priced accordingly, but eventually the price on the spells lowered to about 10k for 65's.
Now that Qaladar and myself are selling 69's for 50k, and 70's for 75k, I'm QUITE certain that other people are skilling up on research. Especially with the people doing lost notebook so much.
With Aqua Regia and Muriatic Acid now for sale (153p and 79p respectivly), there is no need for sulfur and saltpeter.

Ouch! As you say, some of us are still trying to make solutions by the bucketload as we skill up, and saltpeter at those prices is just too high for my budget. I was reliably getting it in buyer mode at 15-20, but the supply has dropped off sharply recently. I saw the update notes about the additions to spell vendors, so I rushed here to see if someone had reported the prices. 153pp for Aqua Regia and 79 for Muriatic? Yikes!Originally Posted by Ravanta Suffer
I was hoping the prices would be at a level that might stem the price gouging on the sulfur and saltpeter, but nope, those are way too expensive for me to use for practice. Sure, if I were just making one spell and didn't have saltpeter around (sulfur is so easy to find I can always have a small amount when I need it) I might buy those, but for practice I guess I'm still stuck farming for saltpeter or hoping people will part with it for a reasonable price.
Why do you think that is expensive?
It takes 3 saltpeter and 2 crystallized sulfur to make an aqua regia.
It takes 1 saltpeter and 1 crystallized sulfur to make a vial of muriatic acid.
153/5 = 31 plat ceiling on saltpeter and sulfur.
79/2 = 39.5 plat ceiling on saltpeter and sulfur.
Since most solutions require a vial + regia, what we have is:
153 + 79 = 232 platinum per combine, not counting the various gems and of course the very cheap, and very easy to make in bulk vial of pure waters.
I LOVE THIS CHANGE. I will never have to buy saltpeter and sulfur again, and even for a person making solutions to skillup, they now have an EXACT ceiling of plat to pay for it. And I don't think they will be competing with the people who are doing research for profit either, so it's good for them for another reason.
Is ceiling spelled right? That looks wrong to me.
I do research with my necromancer alt. My main is a ranger, and I found it incredibly easy to just run around slaughtering PoI mobs for Saltpeter. Crystallized Sulfur was a tad harder to find a good camp spot for, simply ebcause it drops everywhere in low quantities. I eventually settled on Dulak's Harbor, pulling large trains of mobs and HoA'ing them to death with Headshot.
This change has no impact upon me, unless the sellback on muriatic and regia makes it worthwhile making the stuff to dump on vendors.
I guess it depends on what you consider expensive. As I mentioned earlier, until recently my Buyer was getting a steady supply of saltpeter at 15-20pp and sulfur at 1.5-2pp. So by being willing to spend the time on subcombines I could make Aqua Regia for about 60pp, Muriatic for 25pp, etc.Originally Posted by Ravanta Suffer
I wouldn't mind if the new vendor items just offered an option to people rich enough to use them. But the supply of saltpeter/sulfur has dropped off so sharply that it seems hardly anybody is bringing them around any more.
Ah well, all mostly moot now. I finally managed to ding 243 research last night, making an order of solutions for someone. (Though why he wants the Paper solutions is unclear since near as I can tell the recipes to use Paper haven't been discovered yet.) That burned through all my saltpeter; I had to buy Oil of Vitrol and Aqua Fortis to finish the orders, but he was paying well enough to make it worth my while.![]()
