I was asked to make three Necro spells today, as the fellow had noted that there were no recipes available on any of the sites, and he seemed to believe I was known for finding such recipes.
Two of the spells he wanted were straight forward, simple upgrades of previous recipes, but the third is a new spell to the Necro line, so had no precedent. It looked fairly normal though, being an AE Disease aura, so I gave it a shot. Several tries later though, the formula continues to elude me.
The Fine Spell Tablet is easy. It is an 83 spell.
It is a Disease DoT, so Bertoxxulous' Ink Additive seemed the most likely choice, although I did try Ink Additive of the Nameless on the assumption that the spell itself is cast on the Necro, even if the effect is Disease resistance.
Ink of Pain seemed obvious, as it is a damaging spell and does not alter the stats of the Necro in any way. I used one of those, then tried two and three. Eventually I tried Ink of Bertoxxulous, in combinations of one to three, since the spell is disease, although by the conventions we have grown used to in Research, that should not be necessary, as the spell is cast on the Necro himself, so should not be a resist to him.
The Thickener was a problem, as there are very few AE DoTs in the game. I eventually decided to try Extending Thickener, as that is the single target DoT choice, and when those did not work, tried Talisman (used for most auras) and Enervating (used for AE debuffs) Thickeners.
The Quill of the Arch Lich was again default, since it is a Necro spell.
Would any have any insight into things I did not try? I have been through my notes a dozen times trying to think of some edge to work on that might indicate a caster centred DoT aura, but so far, nothing is coming to me.
