I finished the fletching part finally.I think you have to make sure you place the boxes in the same order as you opened them.

#3 failure on the fletching task

I'm not sure what is going on, I've followed the suggested route 3 times and I've now died three times and I'm pretty freaking sick of this happening.

First time I died placing the third box, the next two times were when I was placing the second box. I'm following to the tee the suggested placement of the boxes, has something changed with the quest?

Getting pretty sick of this...

I stood on the altar when i placed the boxes.I may need to step back a pace.But the center box went in ok it was when i placed the west box that they blew up.
I may have tryed to place the wrong box on the west side.I will try to keep better track of the order next time.

spider egg drop rate?

I managed to get into the safe tunnel last night where I can very carefully pull spiders. I killed 6 of them last night before I had to log, but didn't get any eggs to drop. Is this a typical drop rate for them or did I just have a run of bad luck?

I did not stand on the altar, I stood a pace away from it and faced the altar to place boxes. Had a success on my first attempt using one of the confirmed combos on alla's:

1pm
Placed Box 1 in the middle
Box 2 West
Box 3 East

opened Box 2 - success!

Note that box 2 is on the west side of the altar, character facing east, box 3 is on the east side with the character facing west. When I opened the west box I walked around to that side of the altar. Perhaps if you are standing on the south side and trying to open the east or west box it is still thinking that you tried to open the center and punished you for it.

Tired of dying

2 failures so far on the boxes, I'm getting a little tired of getting DTed and having to farm these things.

A few questions:

Do you have to be standing on the altar for all the placements?
Do you have to be in a certain perspective via F9?
After failing the placement, do I need to clear any flags and such by giving my shadowcounting book back to Eron?

This quest is making me a wee bit angry and please don't refer me to the walkthroughs, I've been following them step-by-step and somewhere, somehow I'm getting DTed and it is getting a little tiresome.

Just placed the shadow boxies on the alter.The first one went in the center of the altar just fine.Since it was cloudy i went to the west side of the altar to place the second box but it blew up killing me and destroying all the boxies!:-( do I have to get the boxies again or will Eron give em to me?:-(

Higher up is quoted a post from allakazam those on what time you can open the boxes corresponding to the time of the day and that dotn seem to be entirely corerct.

The information that is posted on another site may be incorrect. Though it is difficult to attempt all the possible combinations for this task to test if there is a bug or not. There is a known working solution and it was posted/shared with the EQTC community.

I didnt so much improvise as follow the sugestion higher up wich worked fine on another time for my box.

I can furtther confirm (as is stated previusly) that midnight and midday arent at 12 but just somewhere around those times since i did midnight combine at 9 and midday combine at 11 (basically when group had med breaks).

For those about to place their boxes for the counting shadows step, I implore you to follow the directions I posted a bunch of pages back exactly. Improvising could get you killed and waste a lot of time.

I wonder if the fletchign task is quite in order ?

At 4 pm game time i placed the first box in center, the 2nd box on west side and the 3rd box on east side and then opened box number 2 (west one) and got a DT for my troubble.

Half way through my placement, I noticed some large spectre type mobs spawn - did anyone else see these? They did not aggro and they poofed when I opened the right box.

Any updates on this?

I got this picture from a friend. I tried the combines in the Far NE room of TSF, the Far SE room, and in the middle SE room .. could not get to work until my group cleared out the SW room in the middle.

We cleared from the East corador killing all the mobs in that SE room so we could get into the SW room to clear it out. Once in that room there is a steam suit is the spot I had no issues doing the combine. The steam suit is on the west side kinda under the generator. No need to clear all of the SE room in the middle just clear the southern sides and pull the the mobs at the SW side of that room then you can get in and clear it out.

the Red box is a rough area of where the Steam suit and the spot is.

Guildie had trouble

I was able to complete this but a guildie had trouble with the final step to combine the browine hairs
