I have been working on my 8th Coldain shawl lately. I wanted to get my smithing skill up a few more points before I attempted the combines for the shawl. According to the smithing area on this site, a velium smithy hammer can be used for normal combines, and they asked that if there was a discrepancy in this, to post here. So thats what i'm doing.
I was creating both fine plate legs(not the official term) and fine plate chestplates to get my skill up. I put in the 3 MQ folded sheets, water, mold, leather padding, and a velium smithy hammer. I made sure everything was correct(it was) and tried again. It did not work. I put in my normal smithy hammer, and it combined as normal. I tried this with the chestplates as well, with the same results.
This was in a forge in Thurgadin, but it was not a cultural forge, as I could combine fine plate. I didn't check other fine plate recipies, or other forges, because as I said I was attempting the pieces for my shawl. Just wanted this to be noticed, and see if this was just a fluke, or if thats how they are supposed to work.
