  • From 252 to 300 on (mostly) GM combines + skill-up rate

With the bonus given for skill-ups to master's (5%) and GM gear (10%), and having just reached 252 tailoring (a bit ago), I decided to just let the improves come naturally over time as I made and sold GM augments using nothing but tailoring (glossy drake hides). I finally hit 300 and here are my results:

    48 skill-ups total=
1 skill-up for making my lone tae ew hide sack (happy bonus).
2 skill-ups from don master combines
    1 skill-up from meldstone combine
44 skill-ups from don gm combines

Now, I know this isn't perfect due to the other items made, so I wasn't *just* making GM gear. However, using what I have:

44 GM skill-ups in 316 GM tailoring combines = 1 in 7.2 combines, or 13.9% skill-up rate. From the calcuator we see:

(with mastery 3 and 0% skill mod, 340 int)
    - at 252 skill, 316 trivial gives 16.14% and 386 trivial gives 15.83% chance to skill-up

    - at 299 skill, 316 trivial gives 12.56% and 386 trivial gives 12.49% chance to skill-up.

So, I had between a 12.49% and 16.14% chance to skill-up over the entire run. 13.9% falls a bit under center, but only by less than half a percent (.42%). That is very close considering the RNG has quite an influence over such a small number of combines (316). I also made varying numbers of items with different trivials: bp & legs make up 30.7%, arms make up 18%, helm, boots, gloves make up 34.2%, and wrists make up 17.1%.

I conclude that the gm 10% skill-up bonus for gm combines is happily working. It was a pleasure to never have to farm othmir, velium hounds, holgresh, or a number of other critters. I did farm othmir *once* and promised myself I would never do it again. Allowing the skill-ups to come over time was much more enjoyable than farming. And hey, I made some plats in the process.

P.S., up through 294, I actually had a 1 in ~5 skill-up rate (19%). What was just nuts. The RNG then proceeded to correct me over the remainder of the course =)
