  • Grandmaster's Medicine Bag - No stats in ammo slot?

I made 200 alchemy last weekend, and was able to create a Grandmaster's Medicine Bag last night. I was very surprised to see that it didn't stack with the alchemy geerlok's bonus, and that when it's equipped in the ammo slot, you don't get any stat benefits. If I trade put it in one of the other slots I have, I lose the WIS benefit that spot had.... so, why would anyone want to make this item?

Any thoughts on this? What am I missing?

Are there any other items that actually give stat bonuses if they're equiped in the ammo slot, or is the Grandmaster's Medicine Bag getting a raw deal?

    Items in ammo slot

No items will give you stats while in the ammo slot. Recently, a change was done to allow items in your ammo slot to still give you skill modifiers. So putting your GM bag in your ammo slot will add to your alchemy skill but not your stats.

No skill modifiers stack. Highest modifier is used.

      Hmmm...

Ammo slots never used to give stats at all. However that caused problems for fishing ammo which were prevented from having any effect at all as they could only be equiped in the ammo slot. The fishing community had suspected this for a long while but couldn't prove it until the new tradeskill interface came out and then everyone could see the effect of modifiers on their tradeskills.

IRC one of the recent patches changed the ammo slot so it would give stat increases however at the same time I noticed that my GM corker and GM spanner no longer fitted in my ammo slot when I was sure that they did before. Indeed if you check the applicable slots for GM trohys shown on this site it still says that corker and spaner fit in the ammo slot when they most definately no longer do with mine.

At the time I figured that the devs had changed the GM items to stop them being put in the ammo slots in order to avoid a sharp increase in everyones stats however your comments seem to suggest that this is not the case with alchemy.

Can anyone test selection of GM trophies to see which ones still fit in the ammo slot?

Kakg, are you on Test by any chance? Lucy shows that the Grandmaster Brewer's Corker still fits in the Ammo, as of yesterday. Likewise for the Grandmaster Tinker's Spanner and all of the other trophies. Magelo concurs. That means the change would have had to be made since yesterday, but there hasn't been a patch. Is this something that can change without a patch? Or is something even screwier going on? You're sure you were looking at trophies and not geerloks?

All my NON-Augmented trophies (Baking, Brewing, Fletching) still fit in the Ammo slot. My Augmented JC trophy does not, since Augments are not made for the Ammo slot. Perhaps this is what you are seeing...

For the statement about Fishing in the ammo slot, if you also put one of the bait you are using in the range slot you will get the fishing modifier from the bait I do believe. And we never have got stat increases in ammo but you do get the tradeskill bonus modifier. If you ever have a question if it actually works, with the new tradeskill UI you can equip your modifiers in whatever slot and open the new UI. It will tell you at the top right I think what your modified skill is. That way you can check it to be true. /shrug
