    [quote="Thicket TundrabogI then log on to my main character and forget to turn on any channels. I'm merrily cruising around asking the odd question on /ooc. After a while I wonder why it's so eerily quiet out there. Doh /smacks self on head. I turn on the chat channels.
    [/quote]

    I turn off everything but guild chat and tells when I leave a character on overnight in the Bazaar. One time, I was in Solusek B, and I hollered for a camp check.
    Dead silence.
    Hollered again.
    Dead silence.
    There were a number of high level characters in the zone, and they were of a level that they were probably soloing certain camps, so I was starting to get annoyed at this point. Eventually, on one of my hollers, I said something rude about people not replying to camp checks, etc...

    At this point, someone was kind enough to send me a stern, but not overly discourteous, tell informing me that I had been replied to plenty of times, and perhaps I should stop being an idiot and check my channels.

    Needless to say, I was mortified. Sure enough, my channels were off. I turned them back on, and profusely apologized to the people in the zone.

      I have found Rivervale the worst place for getting bugged by newbies. I don't know how many times I have seen people ooc or shout "Does ne1 have any spare plat or dr00d items, plz?" If they bug me directly, I tell them Misty Thicket is straight thru the tunnel and there are lots of creatures to for items to sell for money or keep if you like."

      I normally don't get a response.

      I will have to agree, these are probably the main reasons I never answer anyone in ooc or a shout when they are asking for help:

        Or worse, when I am in one of the newbie zones farming, especially BBM, and someone either sends me a tell or just walks up and asks "Do you have any old pally stuff you'd give/sell me?" And when I tell them no, I get "Well can you just give me some plat?" It is getting so bad I have to go anon just to stop the beggars. Anyone else have this problem?

          Beggars? For me, its odd ... I used to get harassed over and over after saying "Sorry, no." I guess they took the 'sorry' as more as a provokation than as politeness. So I switched to just repeated "no" or one no followed by silence. Lately though, I've gone back to "Sorry, no" - and you know what? The same guy hasn't begged my a second time yet. Have the beggers just gotten nicer, or have I just gotten *really* lucky lately?

            I really rather dislike the folks that take your offering of assistance to meaning that you're suddenly their guide/PLer/gear provider/bank.

            Had one fellow inquire about my prices for making tailored backpacks as I was selling them at 75pp in the bazaar... that's what they're usually auctioned for. This person clearly didn't know a thing about.. well.. anything. After explaining basic tailoring, the concept of making money, and how to kill gizzly bears he resorts to simply begging me to give him backpacks... Ugh.

            My personal favorite was when my mule was in the bazaar, in trader mode, AFK, and yet for some reason some dimwit thought I was actually at my keyboard the whole time so I wake up and turn my monitor on to find my tells window full of repeated 'hullo?'s from this person, numerous derogatory terms and such bad misspellings I couldn't understand most of it. Seems he wanted me to give him a 'soopr deel' on one of the items I had.
            The poor sap was still online when I came on so I sent him a tell.

            The soopr deal?
            Basically a general spatter of junk loot droped in newbie zones including a reed belt someone had given him. The wanted item? A Stone of Black Storms. Which is only usable by INT casters, Bards, and SKs. He was a warrior. Why? Is looked 'kel' (cool?)

            I calmly informed him that it would do him no good what-so-ever but he didn't care and proceeded to spam with with 'plz' over and over and over and over.

            Ah /ignore, my savior.

              Newb_guildie_1

              I was playing an alt grouped in Echo the other day... Newb_guildie_1 on gu chat was complaining about the price of his spells, lev15 or so druid I think, anyway, I broke one of my long-standing rules (trying to be nice and helpful) and suggested he go get in line for an aqua gobbie camp in BB. Newb_guildie_1 expresses ignorance about auqa gobbies and wonders what drops there that could help him... I explain and said that he could easily make 400p for a 2 or 3 hour session... dead boring, but not so bad for a lev 15 character and easily enough to cover his spell expenses. Newb_guildie_1 expresses disbelief that one could make that much money soloing a goblin camp... other guildies chime in agreeing that AGs are great money for the level. Long silence.... then I receive a tell asking me if I was going to camp the AGs soon and could he borrow the 400p that I would make? Hmmmmmm, how to respond to this?? I laughed and said that I no longer needed to camp the the AGs to make money... but it was an easy camp for a lev 15 druid.... His response? "Please keep me in mind the next time YOU camp the aquas". Doh! Thats why I had that rule in the first place...

                ...and then there are those that ask for 5pp for their spells. One person asked this of me tonight while I was in Felwithe. I replied "No, but I'll buff you so you can handle the mobs better". I then gave him my lvl 38 pally buffs, and logged on my 53 chanter for clarity and shadow and haste too. I threw in rune (takes a jasper).

                Several minutes later, after enchanting some mithril, I got a tell saying "What spell did you cast on me? I've killed FOUR yellows and they haven't been able to hit me yet!"

                I smiled

                    I have found it to be funny. The beggars keep asking my newbie character for hand outs.
                    That is to say that a level 6 - 9 would ask my level 1-3 for some pp and/or items. I think
                    that we all make mistakes when we start out but as we play we do learn. Some people do
                    need more help then others and some just act like leeches.

                    Question: Are there leeches in the game? And how many legs do they have?

                    If I have the time I do try to help. But if I am busy I will say so and then ask them to leave
                    me alone. It has worked so far. :shock:

                      411 Socials

                      411 Socials

                      Much of the time I live on the PoK... and, of course, and mixed in the usual "is anyone C ing" or "where 42 dr00d hunt?", I see the CONSTANT stream of /ooc and /shout

                      "Is there a bank here"
                      "where is the Necro trainer"
                      "where is the OT stone"
                      etc
                      etc
                      etc

                      So, I took one of those PoK guides and made up 5 pages of socials (which I copy and pasted into all my chars). Here's an example:

                      Page8Button2Name=Shaman
                      Page8Button2Color=0
                      Page8Button2Line1=/ooc There are Shaman Guildmasters in the Evil, Neutral and Good sections:
                      Page8Button2Line2=/ooc N804 P1111 Oracle Guwan (Evil),
                      Page8Button2Line3=/ooc N323 N023 Oracle Maeth (Neutral) and
                      Page8Button2Line4=/ooc P693 P106 Oracle Cador (Good).

                      Generally, I get stunned silence. Very relaxing. Peaceful.

                          Sarcasm rules!

                          I'm with Lilosh on this one. I much prefer to make witty remarks than enable people who can't be bothered to read the manual. It really cracks me up to hear people asking where is stone X when they are all very clearly labeled.

                          Doesn't anybody actually try exploring a zone on their own anymore? I still enjoy the wonder and excitement of a new zone I have never seen before and like to just wander around.

                            The funny thing is I prefer them too, but I am afraid. I thought that cutting remarks were in violation of "Play Nice" and someone would /report me. I have only played since mid November and I so I do not really know which rules are not rules (like the Name Policy - RIGHT! - I'm here in a group with Amadeus Mozart, but real and fictional characters not allowed) and which are enforced. So, I am very polite at all times and went the passive agressive route.

                            Amen. I do and do. Last weekend we did an "Anti Camping" event in Unrest. We pretended that EQ was an Adventure Game and explored the entire zone and killed every living thing at least once. A few outsiders joined us and kept asking "do we have a plan or are we just running around?" and "can't we camp this room for a while?" NO! We are P-L-A-Y-I-N-G and it's fun.

                              This message board is, BY FAR, more strict about Playing nice then any guide or gm, or other player will ever be.

                              The ONLY things that you can be reported for, referring to the play nice policy :

                              1) Cursing is bad. Very bad. But people do it anyway. But you can get reported and banned for it. In theory.

                              2) Training people, intentionally, is bad. I run around pissing off every ice giant in the Great Divide. I then run to you, and feign death. They all see you, and kill you. I get caught doing this, and I am banned.

                              3) Killstealing is also bad. If I am ACTIVELY ENGAGED in battle with a NPC, and you manage to anger it badly enough that it runs to you, then you have stole my kill. I worked hard to take the monster to 10,20, or 90% health, and you are getting an easy kill because of it.

                              4) "Disturbing another persons game experience". Very very very vague. If you start spamming a zone with "OMG I ROOL U ALL SUX NOOBS" hundreds of time in a short time, to the point where nobody else can speak, that is disruptive.

                              Responding in a sarcastic tone to a moron will not get any attention from a GM. Unless the moron lies to a GM, which they will do. "HE IS KSING ME!!! HE TRAINED ME!!! OMG !!!". At which point the GM will come, say "Sorry, no proof, try to play nice boys...", and wander off.

                              If you can prove, somehow, that he lied, then the GM may care. Otherwise, the GM will just say "Can't we all just get along?"
