i have separate windows for different chats.

I have one just for tells, but i miss a remarkable number of tells when in conversations with multiple folks, and i only notice when i'm tabbing through reply-to names and see one i didn't know i was talking with ><

I have one for guild chat, that also has ooc/auc/shout (but those are usually turned off unless i specifically need them on), but i am notorious for responding to folks 20 minutes after they said something in guild chat (there are not many folks online during my playtime so it's not unusual for 20 minutes to go by without using guildchat, since whomever is online is usually in a group together).

I have a few other windows to cut down on spam in my main window. basically i watch to see what's filling the window, if i can turn it off and not miss it, i do. If i do need to see the info, but not constantly, i move it to its own window (spell casting spam: I only need to see "Nasty_Caster begins to cast the GATE spell" or "Gandel begins..." to see if he's still awake).

But even with all that, it's insane how much i miss, and i'm not doing anything in RL when i'm actually hunting.

I say all this, because i hate being ignored more than just about anything else. selectively ignoring things i say makes me battier than just ignoring everything. however i do it too, completely unintentional on my part, so i try to ask folks directly, "If you don't wish to answer, please say so and i'll drop it. Otherwise, you are getting spammed with my question until you give an answer!" Even knowing this is a cultural thing, to me it is unacceptable to be completely ignored, but it is perfectly acceptable to say "I will not answer that question". Are there cultures in which saying directly, "I won't answer", are really really bad but completely ignoring things is fine? bleh ><

Yes there are cultures where stating that you won't answer is considered to be very insulting, but not saying anything is quite appropriate. Can get you into to trouble doing business when you ask about something and the lack of response actually means NO.

But EQ tends not to be quite so formal and all of us miss a lot of things that are general /ooc stuff especially.

I've actually found that when I miss tells, it's to a weird bug...if I'm zoning when someone sends me a tell, I never see it. To them, it says queued, but I still don't see it after zoning. It doesn't do this on the other computer, and it really drives me nuts. I also miss group and guild chat b/c of this...it's really starting to drive me nuts!

That's been bugging me too. When the "queued normal chat" (tells, /gsay, /gu, and a little more /say, /ooc & /shout than normal) when live, it worked extremely reliably for me, and was really nice. For the past few months though, it seems to have become much more unreliable - I've missed a large number of tells and /gsays while zoning, but some are still properly queued. I've started hanging around the zoneline waiting for responses again, since I know if I zone there's a good chance I'll miss the reply - really annoying, as that winds up eating up a lot of time while travelling around

...and then there's the fact that channels don't seem to be queued at all ... <sigh>

Sometimes I get distracted and miss things. Other times, I will either mentally answer the question, and not get around to typing it, or will mischannel and not realize that I'd done so. Generally, soon as someone pokes me about what I missed, I respond quite shamefacedly ... unlike some folks that I've had to ask 5, 6, 7 times for buff status, only to receive total silence, then a RUDE demand once we're in the middle of a multi-mob mess for the buff in question.

On the other hand... how many of us have been asked a question, given the answer in idiot-proof language consisting of words of few syllables, then been asked the same question again, as if we hadn't said anything?
Worst cases of this have been in the last few days in PoK, when there's a question in ooc, I answer, including the person's name, only to find them spamming the question again 60 seconds later. If you're going to ask a question, at least pay attention for the answer.

I've gotten sort of nasty about this, as I'll repeat the answer with a huge "(REPEAT!!)" at the end, so everyone in the zone realizes what a dufus the person is being to ask ... again ... without reading the answers already given.

Missing a question is one thing. Asking a question then not having the courtesy to pay attention to the responses when folks are taking the time to help you is another thing altogether.

So Denmother-sama has Lilosh-syndrome, and Ngreth Sir exhibits Sanna-isms of not entirely realizing the second meaning of what was just said.... What does that make Lilosh and I? Some kind of comparison I'm not sure I want to pursue .....

I have the mild form of Lilosh's Endless Mistells... where I swap /g and /gu all the time. At least I hardly ever mis- things into the wrong channel...anymore...

course, now that I say that...

Doh! Spelling error on my part

                        Kryos = Kyros!

(my bf's wizard was Krynos, hence why I can't type Kyros)
