I recommend seeing a doctor and getting some antibiotics. If its the same bug that's been going around in the So-Cal region, there's no other way to rid yourself of it. Me and my family have all been hit by this thing in the past year.

And no, it won't go away on its own.

If it's a flu thing try Osillococcinum (sp?) I think I spelled it right. Problem is you have to start it within 24 hours of full symptoms. It's avail at GNC.

If it's that dern cough that went around here in Fla it'ss take 3 weeks (YES I said 3 weeks) to get over it.

Sounds like the bronchitious that's been going around my area here lately. Everyone in my family just keeps passing it back and forth. Caught it early October myself and still trying to get rid of it.

I went to the doctor yesterday and got Amoxicillin. But it seems to only have gotten worse. Now I have a runny nose, headache, sneezing all the time. You know you never look as sick as you really are when you are at the doctor. She said I prob just had a cold. Gahhh I hate being sick. I want some hot soup but can't go to lunch for another hour. *sigh* At least my boss understands and I don't have a heavy workload today.

I had it for almost 3 weeks - started to get over it, went back to work for two days, then got is back worse.
Gets lots of rest, drink lots of hot tea with honey, breath in steam several times a day - you cough a bit more to start but it helps a ton - nd try hot orange juice for the painful throat.
I hope ypu feel better soon.

*massive spankings* to those who went in to pressure their doctors for antibiotics for a COLD. Most colds are caused by a virus, NOT bacteria. Antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections.

ever hear of drug-resistant bugs? you people are the cause.

sorry if I'm a bit harsh, but I have to deal with this way too often...

Sorry Cubby.. wrong answer.

People get sick .. go see doc to find out whats wrong. Normal healthy concern over their failing health, nothing in the entire world wrong with that .. and much GOOD.

Doctor [ trusted, informed, knowledgeable ,supposedly intelligent, authority figure ] gives PILLS and prescriptions that will have NO effect and you blame the ill-one?

**Spank you very much**

thats called abuse, malpractice, and the cause of drug resistance in the world. Evil DOCTORS, and remember .. the sick dont write the scripts.. the doctors do.

Hope you kick this thing soon, your able to make it into work, and that's saying how much your trying to be dedicated. I swear colds feel worse then anything else because of the discomfort they cause.

I actually went to the doctor at the instance of my boss who doesn't want the whole office to get sick. I figured my doctor would just tell me it's a cold and there's not much she can do about it. But she gave me anitbiotics. I didn't ask for them. And I don't really like to take drugs but I feel awful and if this might help then I'll take it. And if it clears up on it's own I don't think I'm taking anything that's going to harm me if I'm not sick.

I would rather just stay home in bed all day and not bother with the doctor but I have to work and I need to get better so here I am.

Yes, the physician has a great deal of blame for this as well. It's usually the person coming in complaining of being sick that wheedles the doctor into writing a script for antibiotics, though...

Take them as per your doctor's orders (which are probably "until the pills are gone"). Just don't stop taking them once you feel better... that's precisely how drug-resistant strains develop.

Yes I will take them till they are gone I only have 10 day's worth. I'm hoping they will work. Christmas next week and then my best friend is coming to visit me from TX and she'll be here on New Year's eve and we will be going and doing once she gets out here. So I really want to be better by then.

Thanks for your concern all. =) And thanks for listening to me rant.

Piece of advice for any sick person;

ALWAYS always always! know the medications your taking .. look them up on the net .. ask your doctor exactly what they do and are for <they HAVE to tell you .. its the law and if it isnt where you live, its just plain ethical to tell the patient!>.

I learned without screwing myself up about pills, just by not wanting to take them. As a matter of fact my doctor of the day almost turned me into a breeding ground for exactly the situation that Cubwynn has describing.

Doc had me taking 12 pills every morning and 10 every night for life. Turned out that 8 of them were vitamins <prescriptions for Vitas?.. and the costs!>, dumped those, 1 was a painkiller <shudder - chem addiction no thanks > dumped, and 3 were broad spectrum anti-biotics.
What I found that out, I realized that if I did get sick whilest on these things, I was most likely headed directly for the morgue. Do not pass go, do not stop.
They were using the BIG boys <at the time> on me. And I wasnt sick!
IE - Euar becomes a natural disaster waiting to happen. If I got sick, they would have no new anti's to treat it .. and a new version of a bacteria/illness would be unleashed <3 pills trashed!>.
That was irresponsible of the medical profession and ALL too common.
Just as an FYI, I was in a collision and broke my back <perm>. I was NEVER sick, nor did I need anti-biotics.

They had me on some pretty nasty painkillers for a while a few years back - painkillers with caffeine in them during the day, and a sedative-hypnotic at night. {shudder} Both of them, of course, highly addictive. I stayed on them long enough to finish the documentation at my job (single point of failure in the compnay, with me gone, there were procedures that nobody at all would know how to handle), retire, and to function through physical pain until the day after my mom's funeral, then I got myself off the durn things fast.

My doctor never really warned me how addictive the stuff I was on was, and never dug deeper than "stress" as a diagnosis. (At least that's better than the elderly doctor who once told me I had the "vapors" when I went in with a very bad case of mononucleosis in college, but only minorly so.) I'd likely still be on them, years later, if that doctor had their way, or on something stronger ... without the proper diagnosis of the true medical problem that was at the root of it all. However, I'd done some research on my own, and made a decision to cope with pain without the drugs BEFORE I got addicted to them.

{shakes head} Thankfully, the medical profession might have some duds (the malpractice suit against the doctor that misdiagnosed my mom's cancer as a "yeast infection" when the biopsy clearly showed cancer finally goes to trial this fall), but there are also some true gems out there as well, and I've been fortunate to find some of the latter since we moved to California.

Now, if only I could find a good dentist ...
