  • ARGH! Stupid 8th shawl

So, got all my gems for etching. 180 jewelcraft and a geerlok should give me a 95% success rate.

All good for faceting them, now just to put them in the armour.

Three failures out of the eight attempts.

THREE FAILURES OUT OF EIGHT ATTEMPTS

I'm wondering if I lately pissed off a god or two to get such unbelievably bad luck.

    What the hell? What? Why?

    sigh

back to whacking geonids I guess.

If you can, take all the armor, your etching tools, and a (collapsible or normal) jewelry kit with you to the geonid caves. Then facet the gems and stick them on the armor as and when you loot them. That way you can stay there till you are done, and when you leave with a complete set of armor ready to combine in the Dain's container, you will know you never have to go back to those cursed caves ever ever ever.

I took a Rallic Pack (85% wr) with the eight bits of armor, collapsible JC kit, and etching tools. I failed one faceting and one armor-sticking-on. but it was OK cos I could just keep killing geonids right there and then.

I feel your pain. Various geo-hunting expeditions later I was still one unrefined diamond away from finishing the pieces (failed on the last one, argh!) So, last night me and a 3-boxing guildie went to WL to ‘persuade’ the geos to release a diamond.

There’s another group there already. No problem, they are hunting up front, we move farther in. We proceed to kill, and shimmering geos actually make an appearance with reasonable frequency (last couple of trips they were shy, or something, hardly got any to show, no matter how many of their buddies we clobbered.)

So, we kill the shimmerings. Drop one, Unrefined Sapphire. Gah. Oh well, maybe the other group can use em, shoot of an /ooc message. No one comes to loot it, since I have some extra velium fur padding, I loot it so it wont go to waste, as there’s 20 secs till it rots.

So we kill more shimmerings…and in swift succession they proceed to drop

      Unrefined Emerald
      Unrefined Sapphire
      Unrefined Sapphire
      Unrefined Emerald
      Unrefined Emerald
      Unrefined Sapphire
      Unrefined Emerald
      Unrefined Sapphire

NINE shimmerings, not one Unrefined Diamond. /cry

Ok, one last kill, then it’s time to log. And here comes a Shimmering!

      OMG! Unrefined Diamond.

They were toying with me. I'll probably fail the combine. /sigh

So I port us to PoK, and thank my guildmate profusely for his help, and proceed to the bank to get the last piece of armor. Pull out the jewelcraft kit and the etching tools, put everything in, pray to the RNG and close my eyes, and hit combine……

      …whew…Faceted Diamond!

Ok, one more time…BP, gem, etching tools

      …WOOT! Success!

Off to the Dain, did the turn-in, and I am now ready to escort the General!

/em falls into a nervous collapse from the released tension.

I took the armor, JC kit and JC geerlok with me into the caves for 2 characters. The failure rate for stuff that is trivial was insane. My guess was 1/3 to 1/2 failures when my unmodified JC skill is 183.

The drop rates you describe was similar to what I found. About 4 times as many of the emeralds and sapphires as diamonds.

I hate the geonids.... shure I tried to get them their uplift (have the focus to prove it) but man... grind grind grind... twirl the head and grind some more...

(and, of course - doing this not for just one person but two at the same time just makes the "joy" of killing twice as much fun)
thank the gods' once it's done - it's done

I can't imagine doing the POK trades quest - not for two or three years at least

I failed one facet, and two armor combines as I recall with JC at 179 I think with a geerlock. I too took my gear and armor with me, as I was not leaving until I was done.
