Ok, I am a 50 chanter on stormhammer and ive been playing the game for 2 months. Recently a guild member got me into JC and I have been addicted to it now. I have my JC at 193 and I just did over 50 combines and not a single up using platinum and malachite, is that just bad luck? It cost me over 1k too
Well due to the 1k loss I now need money, is there anything fairly decent I can make with JC at 193 and potter at 150? I am not sure what sells good, and what items I would be better off waiting for. Also what is a geerlock, and where I get them? I heard they are good for tradeskills. One last thing, what is a planar jewlers kit and whats the difference?
Sorry abou the novel qustionairre but any help would be greatly appreciated, this JC thing is driving me crazy

When I do jewelcraft I alway stick to the metal/gem combination whose trivial is a few points above my skill, and I always use a geerlok gemsetter in my primary hand. This increases by chance of success (and lowers the chance of a skill up by a small bit). This way I can sell back all of my successful combines and get enough pp for another stack of combines. At a skill of 193 you should still be using gold and some of the higher end gems (check the recipes on EQTC for trivials).
A geerlok gemsetter is a tinker made device that gives you a +5% skill modifier to jewelry making. They cost anywhere from 100-400pp in the bazaar, unless you can get a friendly gnome to make you one for free.
My jewelcrafting is currently at 202, but from 180 to 198 or so I often went 60 combines without a skillup, with a WIS of 209.
I hope this helps

/chuckle Welcome to the club. Some of the skill ups took me as many as 200+ combines for 1 point.
As for the money, if you can enchant the metal do so. Vendors will give you a plat or 2 more than you paid for material for an enchanted piece of jewelry. Granted with fails you will probably still lose money, but at least the loss will be at a slower rate.

Narith is right, and it'll only get worse the higher you get. My JC is currently at 215, and even with 255int/dex it's still taking many stacks of components to get single points.
Expensive, but addicting. Instead of spending all your savings at once (which is what I tend to do, and then kick myself afterwards) is spend a couple hundred plat every once and a while on metal & gems and work on them whenever you've got some free time. It'll be slower, but you won't notice it being as much of a cash drainer :)

Oh, PS -- the planar jewel kit is used to make items with components from the planes in the latest expansion. Most require a skill of 250+ and have components that are a pain in the ass to find.
For skilling up purposes and general use you'll want just a regular jeweller's kit from one of the many gem vendors.

OK, I know its off topic BUT...
Ok, I am a 50 chanter on stormhammer and ive been playing the game for 2 months.
HOW DO YOU GET TO LVL 50 IN 2 MONTHS?
I have been playing my Beastlord almost a year and am finally 54.
BTW The Planer Kits. *Insert desired tradeskill here*
Will they work with the standard combines? I am not refering to Velious Tayloring in this at all though.

Anything that will work in a standard kit should work in a planar kit. That said, there have been reports of certain combines not working in planar kits (the only thing I can remember is tradeskill trophies, but I can't say with any certainty that that's the only thing).
Cultural tailoring still requires the appropriate cultural kit, of course.

OK, Thanks.
I did forget to add 1 thing to that list though.
The new Collapsable kits. Will they do the PoP combines as well as all the normal combines?

Getting to lvl 50 wasnt that tough.. you just go to places a little higher than you lvl would permit and you can usually find someone to put you in their group to take all the xp. Most people have no problem puttin buffs on you and helping you out. Since I am new most people are more than willing to help me, now im slowly working on an sk and might start a bard.

Don't forget to check out
http://www.valendor.org/gumkak/jewelcraft.asp Gumkak's site. Just choose "how to raise skill", choose Cheap and Slow, put in your Current Skill and hit personalize. A nice neat chart of what combines you should be doing pops up.
Thanks Gumkak! Made my progression must easier.
