Shimmering Geos and their tight-fistedness

I'm almost done with the 8th shawl – all the armour is made, and only 2 pieces left to imbue.

/sigh

The geos are hiding their unrefined emeralds. The sapphires keep dropping but no emeralds…all I need is 2….please?

I had the same problem, got 6 blasted saphires in a row while eneralds and 1 diamond sat lonely in my packs.
Nearly 2 hours after the laste emerald/diamond drop I got two shimmerings in a row, one with emerald, the other diamond. I decided I wanted to have 1 extra of each type, which only took another 15 mins to get (Since I had 8 saphires already)

A friend of mine got 6 diamonds before getting 3 of the other two, so it's just a matter of random luck... keep killin!

i've been collecting the gems off and on for.. um... 8 months now at least, and reguardless of when i go there, sapphires always drop lots... emeralds actully have dropped less than diamonds.

Its random. Roll a d6 6 times. You are *not* gonna get a 1,2,3,4,5 and a 6. (well you might, but its slim)

My present count on gems for my shamans shawl: 8 diamonds, 5 sapphires, 3 emeralds (failed one etching on emeralds, ouch, gotta go get another)

I don't wanna hear this crap - I had enough fun with the 5th shawl getting off the wall rare drops and it's not as if my wallet is appreciating my climb to trivialising plate armor for these combines. :?

Can't someone post something positive like "Yeah, the geos were a nice, pleasant camp, dropped enough quest gems for me to get a full set of Velious armor, pay for my tailoring, smithing and JC skilling sessions and all the gems I needed for the armor combines dropped within just two or three hours of laidback, casual farming."

I guess the little walk about with the general through IC is supposed to be the nice, laidback, casual part of the shawl quest - sigh - atleast it ultimately ends on a relaxed note and not some 50k cost, make the combine or start all over again, 250+ tailoring combine.

Well, I kinda enjoyed the geo's camp as I was able to clear an entire section of the cavern aside from one spawn in the back completely solo without a second of downtime thanks to Paragon of Spirit and bandages.
Made a fairly pretty penny in profits from gem drops as well, nothing super, but it at least paid for the velium and tempers I had to buy in the bazaar in order to remark the failed leggings =P

I was relatively fortunate with this camp.

I had 4 diamonds, 3 sapphires and 2 emeralds. As I killed my last shimmering geonid.... it ended up being an emerald /dance.

So I go do my combines.. but I fail on one of the pieces that needed a sapphire. I go back to WL, and my first shimmering geonid drops a sapphire. /dance again.

All ready for my 8th shawl walk now My guild has been busy attempting Bertox (god that's a hard fight), so haven't been able to get support yet for my walk, but hopefully soon

The first time I did this quest I had to wait about 2-3 months before I could get the people together to do this "nice, laidback, casual part of the shawl quest"

I did it for the second time last Thursday, and almost gave up in disgust at the time it took to get an appropriate force together for it (this despite friends knowing for several days in advance that I wanted to attempt it then).

I am currently 3 gems from having a third set of marching orders ready, but don't anticipate actually getting the shawl any time soon.

Just kidding - I got my set just xp grouping (before PoP, so we did actually get xp). When I went back to try after my server move, I could never get a dang shimmering (I think the spawns get picked clean on The Rathe).

But yeah, if you can snag some friends to come with you or another shawl questor to split gems with, it's not a hard camp and the regular mobs do drop gems and merchant fodder. Just stay clear of the goo's - I hate those things.

The goos are easy to get rid of. The geo's will attack the goos. So if you want to just knock some geo's down you can train them with goo's to clear ph spots for more shimmering to spawn. I had trouble getting the emeralds also. Still kicking myself for the 1 failure cause I forgot to equip my geerlok! I actually ended up with more diamonds than sapphires in the end.
