According to the zone-specific fishing section, I should be able to pull in some grotto bluegill when fishing in the Tower of Frozen Shadow. But so far I haven’t had any luck. Granted, the only places to fish from in the tower are a couple of pools of blood, but since I’m able to pull in fresh fish, along with the standard assortment of junk, I’m assuming the grotto bluegill can survive in such disgusting “water” as well. Last night I went through three stacks of bait and not a single bluegill did I see.

My fishing skill is currently 188 and I always use my fisherman’s companion to summon a fishing pole. When fishing in Ak'Anon I pull in almost as many clockwork koi as I do fresh fish. And I’ve had similar luck in many other zones. When my fishing was about 120 I managed to collect almost a stack of kunzar koi from Sebilis. So my experience with zone specific fish, with the exception of the ToFS, is that they are not all that rare.

So can anyone confirm that grotto bluegill actually do swim the bloody pools of the tower or have the fishing tables changed since the fishing section was written?

The fishing tables have indeed changed -- for instance the rare catfish is no longer coming out of Cabilis. Also it's possible that grotto bluegill were never there -- someone could have been mistaken. It's just not like Verant to put a special fish in a zone without water.

But I think you need to go through a lot more than three stacks of bait before giving up. Some zone-specific fish are more common than others.

I agree, 60 or so bait is not enough to make a claim one way or another. I’ll take a backpack of bait with me next time I get the chance to go and see how much of it I get a chance to use. But if the bluegill can indeed be found in that bloodstained water, its one elusive fish.

After a long day of strenuous fishing i went to tofs for some relaxation with some friends. I came across the bath full of blood and whipped out my Fishin' Pole and cooler of cold ones along wtih a can of bait and went at it, caught a bunch of fresh fish which i quickly deboned but alas, no bluegill... im planning on returning there with more bait another day to find this elusive fish

Have you tried fishing in the water on 6th? Not that it should change success rates, just might be easier since no mobs path there...

I’ve only been to the 6th floor once myself and I didn’t get a chance to try fishing there. I have tried fishing a few more time from the blood pools. Even with 200 fishing I still haven’t had any luck pulling out a single grotto bluegill. At this point I’m going to assume they no longer exist in that zone. Perhaps someone will feel up to the challenge of proving me wrong. :)

Thought the blue gill came from Sirens Grotto?

According to the Zone-specific Fishing guide you are correct Soulfiend. Grotto bluegill are found in Siren’s Grotto. But according to the same guide grotto bluegill can also be fished up in Tower of Frozen Shadow. *shrugs*

I originally made this post because I was spending a fair amount of time in the tower and thought it would be fun to try to fish up some zone specific fish and I never could. I’m assuming at this point that the fishing table has changed since the guide was posted or that it was just a typo.

Oops, missed this. I can confirm that the fish are no longer in TOFS (tried 5th and 6th floor both)
