  • Rant 6th Shawl!!! Wait... maybe not.

Ok, so I've been hunting Sirens solo for a few nights, and finally got a second hair tonight.

Had a much harder time on them than expected... hehe.

So I try my 6th shawl, the thread, the trivial part... 3 days of farming, and the TRIVIAL part fails.

I mean, I hate trivial combines, I fail more at things trivial than things way above my level...

So I came here to rant.

Before I could type it I determined to try again though... so I went back, killed more sirens, and finally got another 2.

Bought another frost giant beard, and viola, I can update my sig.

So I guess the non-trivial you should fail this three time ones I can do....

Got me... never been to Sirens Grotto.

I do need to for the 7th shawl though, so sometime in the next few months I'll be going.

I did this one without an EB earring, heheh. It was kind of funny swimming down, nuke nuke nuke nuke, dead... swim up for air, go loot corpse.

      Repeat .

People say you can drown if they charm you... glad that didn't happen.

A permanent EB item is invaluable for hunting sirens in the water in Cobalt Scar. They can dispell and EB can wear off normally. Not fun when it happens and you're stuck underwater.

Same goes for hunting Sirens/Swordfish in Sirens Grotto. Easiest spot for the swordfish is at the top of the waterfall that you see from the zone in. Take the tunnel to the left of the waterfall as if you were headed to the WW zone line. There are 2 swordfish in the water at the top of the falls. You can normally get them solo.

4th time was a charm for me on that darn 6th shawl at skill 161 in tailoring.
At the very least I didn't fail on the thread spool any of the 4 attempts.

As far as EB items go it is quite handy, however the sirns drop Sea Shell necklaces that have 0.1 sec casting EB on them, 5 charges each. In the time I was there for all 8 hairs (/shudder) I went through about 3 necklaces and still have 4 more in the bank.

Took me two shots to get the 6th shawl - the worst part was that after my first failure, I descided to get double parts just in case - got wasted farming my 3rd siren hair and blew alot of time in GD slaughtering wolves for no good reason - then I had to destroy the two extra no drop siren hairs and wolf whiskers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the @#$% components shouldn't be no drop for the pre-combines for a tradeskill quest with a descent trivial to it - what a waste.

Im doin the shawl quest again for my shaman this time. Fortuantely im 65 (ranger, not the shaman, hes 48), so the worst that sirens ever hit me for is the rare 50ish point stun/nuke. Almost everything else is resisted at 120ish MR.
Last time i went i took my shaman along to soak up the xp, parked at the Sirens Grotto enterance and pulled.. sorta, into the tunnel. More often then not theyd get stuck inside the walls and start hitting me theu the walls after running out of mana, so id head back outside in the open area and kill them there.
Also more often then not, id aggro 3 or 4 of em at a time cause id see multiple spells of the same name land simultaneously.. and id sit there... waiting, resisting everything.. waiting fo the little runts to run oom so they can come in where i can dispell, snare and slaughter em.
Maybe i wont even bother waiting next time. Ill just charge em all. Rar.

For me, their damage shield does more damage then their nukes or melee. Dispell that thing.

SG is actually a lot of fun to fight in. The sirens in here are more difficult, and don't drop the hair though. They will... charm, mez, root, dispell, and nuke you. With a resonable MR you'll survive, most the time.

If you do the castle, you'll also have to deal with some ae dispelling elementals. The easiest tactic for dealign with the castle (sirens and elementals) is to bring an extra chanter to chain stun.... it used to work in lguk, and it works in SG. Last trip in i rotated my 4th and 20th level stuns for probably an 85-90% lockdown... it was almost funny, in a sad for the siren type of way.

The names can't be done that way, nor the uthorks and molkor.. but there's only a few of them in the castle area.
