  • Is it considered bad form too...

With my upcomming 8th shawl, I'll be popping the Dain at one point to do part of the quest. After I've done everything I need to do with him, would it be considered bad form to have my guild standing by to waste him?

We are getting ready to switch over to Giant faction anyway, so most folks probobly wouldn't mind the faction hit, so assuming we can take him, is this considered something you don't do?

For those who've done this, what's the faction hit for participating in the battle?

Well, for a Orge SK that smells like a skunk and got beat down by FROGS! I don't really see anything wrong with it. True, it is very much not in the mind of the quests but still, nothing saying you can not do it. And as long as you don't hit anyone you yourself don't get factions hits. Remember, you still need to do the finial battle, and you can not be KOS to do it.

Most people I know used the opportunity to kill the dain
A Belt of Dwarf Slaying always come handy....
The faction hit is pretty bad so I don't suggest eating it if you wanna make your 10th ring in the near future.

EDIT, oh yea, need faction for the Iceclad part of the 8th shawl too....so in your place I would not participate in the battle. When we did mine I stayed FDed the whole thing 'coz I have eaten random faction hits from the royals before without doing a thing.

faction hit takes you from max ally to..hmmm..dubious if i remember correct..but a /q before kill will save faction for those (like tradeskillers) that really care

edit:to the coldain..dunno what it does to dain himself

As a roleplayer, I find the whole idea rephrehensible, including flopping over to giant faction.

On Rallos Dain stays up for weeks at a time shrug. Same with Yelinak (although people hate tormax :P)

But i would wait until AFTER you have your shawl. The last thing you need is to fail the 8th shawl excort after 90% of your guild becomes kos to coldain

It's possible to do the escort mission with a high percentage of KOS to Coldain people. Just need to mem blur/atone the General a lot and have people stay away from him.

I'm with Sumamael. I was Max Ally to Claws and Coldain at one point, then Max Ally with Tormax and Rif/Zek. Back to Ally with Coldain, Amiable to Dain, Apprehensive to CoV and probably KoS to Yelinak. I used the Giants for my own purposes and turned on them once I was done.

Yeah, but what about a Troll SK with an aroma of fine Honduran cigars about him who hasn't been beaten by a frog for atleast 40 levels now?

 I ment Troll, don't know why I put Orge. And a fine smell of Honduran Cigars..hmm? They are good cigars, maybe if you give me one I'll let you do it.

P.S. And admit it, you went AFK and came back to find yourself getting swated at by a level 4 Frog.

Do you mean for killing the dain? The hit is 500 points... a VERY heavy hit. (takes an average of 4 kills of any of the Royals to go from KOS to ally and Vice versa...)

                        It is a HUGE hit.
I was max ally Coldain and amiable to Dain. I was respeonsible for tanking the Chancellor and keeping him occupied. Somehow - while accross the room, I got on the Dain's rampage list. He dies - and so did my faction.

But it is not considered bad form to kill him - it is almost expected that you will do so.

Sometimes it's easier to get people for the shawl crawl if they get to kill the Dain and have a chance at good item themselves also.

My first Dain kill, I was max ally to Coldain and amiable to the Dain. After faction hit, I was amiable to Coldain, KoS to Dain. I only took faction from the Dain himself...logged in as they were clearing, arrived just before he was pulled.
