  • After the big quests

Maybe it is just a few of my friends and myself, but do other folks kind of stall after finishing a huge quest like the shawls or their epics. I finished the 8th shawl almost 2 weeks ago and have barely done anything with my main since, because I am at a loss for some long term project to work on (and I don't consider xp grind a project). I look at some of the other complex quests like the tunarean signet ring and spirit of garzicor and well don't think I can finish the first one and, well... the rewards for them aren't nifty enough. I may try the Spirit of Garzicor anyhow since it looks kind of fun and nice and complex.

Just wondering if it happens to other folks and if anyone has suggestions on some new projects. (and I don't have the AAXP, money, or flags to do Aid Grimel so that one is out of the question)

(BTW I have my epic, 8th shawl, and qeynos badge of nobility)

I run into this a lot.

Finish something, some goal, and get hung up for a while.

Usually I play an alt until the next project comes along. Although I currently have enough projects that I may not have them done by the time EQ comes to an end.

I set goals for my main toon. I consider my Epic, Shawl and skills my main "Uber Quests." If I can't go further on one of them then I work on armor upgrades, always a little quest for me. I'm never happy with what I have. Then if I have to I just XP to get the big quest of level 65 with tons of AAs. Considering I'm 53 with 0 AAs I have a LOT of work.

        Yup

I got this feeling too. When I ding'd 1750 about 2 months ago, I logged in for a few days with my main, not knowing what to do, and just sat around chatting.

Here are some ideas, if you're not into questing for a another big project right away. These ideas where found all over the place, suggested by others.

        1) Master all languages
        2) Go non-kos in as many cities as you can (even the starting kos ones)
        3) Raise non-tradeskill skills to the cap (aka Alcohol Tolerance, Fishing, Begging, Research)

I have about 40 things to do on my own list, hehe...but I won't list that here
And I too, hate the exp grind That's why I'm only 56 with 4 years played. (not /played, but I started in 1999)

Shoot - finishing something like that has always been cause to celebrate by going out and finding some XP giving mobs to test my new toy on - no such thing as an after quest funk for this troll.

Just wondering if it happens to other folks and if anyone has suggestions on some new projects. (and I don't have the AAXP, money, or flags to do Aid Grimel so that one is out of the question)
Well, you can do the thurg ring quest.

          ***or***

It sounds to me like you've just earned yourself three new quests if you're interested in Grimel - you need to boost your AAxp, get together some plat and earn a few flags - those three goals having been satisfied, you can now celebrate by actually doing the quest - four for one - what a deal!

Oh yes, I know the feeling! I ran into that very recently. Happily, a vacation from both work and EQ (friend in town visiting) for a week worked wonders to revive my interest. Well, and last night's raid where I got all but one piece for my BoT key helped too.

Alyxia's got the same ideas that I usually use. The only skill not maxxed is begging, and that's at 187. I could buy my way the rest of the way with training points, but I prefer to do that when I get bits of time when there isn't anything else to do, or nothing else that I want to do. It also seems silly to spend hundreds of plat on a skill that'll net me coppers at best. :P

But there are tons of projects out there. My other current big one is finding acceptance in Cabilis. It's plenty easy to round up bone chips off vendors or Traders, and hop on over to Cabilis to turn them in. It takes some research to learn all the ins and outs but that's the best part, in my opinion. It'll take a looooong time to get completely nonkos in all of Cabilis, but that's just that much longer it'll keep me busy. I'm also currently working on max ally with all of Halas, gathering materials when I see them for sale or feel the urge to go roam Everfrost. In the past I've done the casters, corrupt guards, and rogues of Qeynos, almost all of Erudin, and the Neriak guards, among others. I find it kinda relaxing to be back in the old world cities, away from the clamor of the busier zones and the exp grind. Illusion potions also make this much easier than it used to be.

              hehe

I'm feeling the same thing about turning 60... such a long term goal I just want a break.

Then again i am on the 5th shawl and half-way through my Epic, so I don't exactly have all my goals yet.

              Grats on the Shawl btw!!!!

                I don't think i've ever had this problem :P
                my currwent projects are:
Main -- Epic, Whistling Fists (have Tynn Shackle), Coldain rings (4/10), Tailoring, Smithing, Strength of the Elements, Small Clockwork Talisman, Chardok faction (after epic)
Primary Alt -- Dar Khura Cloaks (at officer's so far), Vah Shir Tailoring, Vah Shir pottery, Vah Shir Fletching
Chanter Alt -- Shawls, level 49 (for enchanting/mana)

Plus 5 more alts on Xev, 1 on 7th, 2 on Xegony, 1 or Stromm, 2 on Vazaelle. . . All with quests aplenty to work on.

Don't narrow your focus too much, you may get more accomplished, but it will leave you feeling empty.

Sounds like me lol, I'm frequently making new "to do" lists for in game. Right now, I don't have too much on my plate!

Main druid - 1750 (276 to go), lvl 65, lots of AAs, more flags/keys, finally do the stupid 8th shawl escort (been sitting on that bit for about 6 months)
Alt enchanter - 10 more levels to KEI, start epic, shawls and corresponding trade skills
                  Alt gnome - 250 tinker (155 now)

And of course, there's a long list of items I want to camp for, but that's an entirely different topic!
Tinile, 85th Druid of the Seventh Hammer
                  1750 - 3/12/04, Still plugging away at 2100...
                  Baking 300 | Blacksmithing 273 | Brewing 300 | Fletching 300 | Jewel Craft 300 | Pottery 300 | Tailoring 267

Namarie Silmaril, Enchantress of the 67th level
                  Baking 135 | Blacksmithing 123 | Brewing 200 | Fletching 168 | Jewel Craft 250 | Pottery 199 | Spell Research 200 | Tailoring 165

Hate to burst your bubble, but officer is as far as it goes now... if you have the two slot box still you'll just hafta destroy it as the hero medallion that drops still does not combine with the officer cloak anymore nore is there the NPC that originally took the box for the Hero cloak =/

I've found myself in a similar rut as far as things to do. Got my Vah Shir Officer Cloak, Nobility Badge, Epics, and am one guild raid away from 8th shawl, so it's good as done. I loathe faction grinding and Beastlords arn't very apt at doing it very easily.
Right now my only 'quest' is the BoT tower key, but I already have the ring and two gems so it's just a matter of hanging out in BoT till the other two are lying around rotting.
I also need all but one of my 63-65 spells, but getting spectrals and runes is a matter of sheer luck (Ethereals, on the other paw, I end up looting just to clear corpses as no one wants them anymore)
Getting any more plane flags beyond what I already have is unlikely at best as my guild's sights are set on NToV, Ssra, and VT with almost no interest in PoTactics or other planar raids. (As it stands most of the other 65s are voluntarily stuck in PoM, which I don't have hardly any interest in as there's about 0 beastlord loot there anyway)

So, for the time being I'm just AAXP grinding.

I am already starting to feel that way and I haven't finished my "epic quests". I already made 65, have my epic, have over 70 AAs, GM in 5 of 7 tradeskills, have 8th shawl, flagged for 2nd tier planes (3rd tier will be difficult because I am in a small guild), maxed out fishing and most languages and been to 90% of the zones. I am kind of losing interest other than finishing up to 1750 and gain entrance to few other zones like planes.

I don't like xp grinding either. I do it because I need xp to do the things I want to do. I used be a very patient Cleric. Now I am less patient with people who do not know how to play as well or someone who is not up to par, sort to speak. I figure at our level, 60+, there should be some standard of play you expect from players. If those are not met, I leave the group. I usually never used to leave a group due to dissatisfaction of the members but I am on shorter fuse now days. I don't need the xp that bad if I have to suffer through bad group dynamics. So often I am either declining invitation to group and just chatting with guildies and friends sitting down doing some mundane things.

Well, almost a rant but just my 2 cents worth.

For my paladin, I have been working on Girdle of Faith and Spirit Wracked Cords for about a year. The contention of trying to get drusel in HS and the globe from PoSky have made me almost quit the game in frustration. I have coldain ring 9 and might never see ring 10.

Quests I have been working on with my shaman: cudgel quests from cabilis, I need to do the final battle in HS (which was fixed a couple of patches ago). This quest series has a facinating storyline and is well worth doing if you are a shaman. The faction is rather hard for a non-iksar, but is doable. I should do coldain ring 8 or 9 for this character.

Quests I think I might do with my paladin: Shield of Nobility (ac 50, str 15, wis 15, hp 75, can fit on back, plate classes only) and draconic mask.

As for getting nonkos in cabilis, there are a couple of vendors that are on a mystery faction, maxing all factions (except necro guild to whom I am still kos), I am dubious to them. All iksars appear to be amiable to them by default (I have not wasted an iksar illusion potion to verify it is race related though). There are several unmapped mazes under east and west cabilis, lots of fun wandering around there: best do it with a class that can gate though, the one in west cabilis is very tangled even though right-hand-rule will get you out eventually. The mazes in east cabilis are connected through a series of one-way doors.

One of the big downfalls of the Beastlord class is the lack of quests available that are useful to us... nearly all the ones I can do are all/all.

My guild is currently adicted to Plane of Mischeif, but my last check of gear from there indicated that only the general purpose stuff like the flowers of functionality where usable by me.. there is no armor for beastlords (Though I beleive there are a couple other classes that don't get any either), so I simply havn't been going there.

About all I can come up with is to do other class' lower level quests just for the heck of it.

Guess it is time for me to go and read through some of the quests and work on some of the skills I want to improve. I have a secret desire to figure out Shakey Scarecrow's Head quest but so far that hasn't happened. Lots of things to do but nothing seems to be as nifty a challenge as the shawl or the epic has been.
