I am trying to research the spell Everlasting Breath for my Shaman. I have both components for the Enchanter recipe for the spell (Yaeth's 63 right and left + parchment and quill). I also have a Mage with a research skill of 170. Can my Mage do the combine for my Shaman or will I need to enlist the help of an Enchanter?

I know all int casters can do the combines for all priest classes but can 1 in caster class do the combine for another int caster class?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I -believe- that int caster combines are restricted by class, but I haven't tested this with the new research yet. (Definitely true of old research though.)

If you are using the enchanter recipe, you must have an enchanter do the combine. If you were using the druid/shaman recipe, any researcher could do it.

More importantly, you cant get the new research books for any given class unless you are that particular class, so it's a moot point.

Thanks for the replies. That was what I had suspected but didn't want to leave anything to chance.

The next question would be:

Is the enchanter researched version of the spell scribable by other than an enchanter? I seem to recall that there are some spells where there are different versions of the same spell.

Any class that can use the spell, can scribe the spell, regardless of who researched it.

Druids can use the Levitation spell created using the chanter recipe, etc.....

This is true of 50-60 spells. Some of the 1-49 spells work differently, like Paralyzing Earth. Clerics or shamans can scribe the Paralyzing Earth made by any of the casters that can make it, but the casters can only scribe a copy researched by their own class.

Also, when I dinged 44 SEVERAL months ago, I was not able to scribe the Gravity Flux spell researched by an Enchanter (it's a lev 39 spell for chanters), even though we wizards get the spell too

I've yet to see an exception to the rule Verdani. I had a chanter research a spell for me(gravity flux) and I was able to scribe and use it just fine(I'm a wizard).

The different version if memory serves had to do with the skill check it made(I could swear gflux for chanters and wizards used to use different skills). Bear in mind its been a couple years since I had to worry about research so it is possible they changed things.

This is from the last patch message:

March 13, 2003 4:00 am
------------------------------

** Spells **

- Added the ability for any caster to research dropped priest spells using the research books found in Gunthak. The research notes for these spells can be found in the Plane of Knowledge. Wizards, Enchanter, Magician, and Necromancers are able to create any of the researchable priest spells.

In other words any INT caster can research any priest class spells

They can research any dropped spell, not any spell period. Small point, but don't want people to get their hopes up over quested spells and the like.

Also, while Gravity Flux has conflicting reports here, Paralyzing Earth is definitely limited to just the researching class plus clerics and shamans. Per Mukkul's post (http://mboards.eqtraders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=35257#35257) in the Research Recipes thread, Paralyzing Earth is available in three versions, each one unavailable to any int caster other than the class that researched it.

I am a Wizard also and it was about a year and a half ago that I bought the Gravity Flux spell from an Enchanter and was able to scribe it. They may have changed it since then, but at that time a Wiz could scribe the chanter version and a chanter could scribe the Wiz version.

Last summer I started a little wizard, and upon getting her to 16th level, I gave her a copy of Levitation that I had researched (I'm an enchanter). She could not scribe it. I had to get a wizard friend to research the correct scroll to scribe.
