View Full Version : A question for my shaman friends (Illusion Potions)

Howdy,
As a Halfling druid, I have become fairly obsessed with travel. I can port, gate, and have good starting faction in a great deal of places.
But recently, I have been thinking about working on Neriak faction, and possiby working it up enough to wander around neriak. I have checked the quests, and it looks fine.
The thing is, It would be made much easier if I could be a dark elf for parts of this. The thought of spending 100p per dose for a novelty is a bit much.
Would any of you take a stack or so of parts in exchange for a potion? My other option is to sell the cannibalistic parts in the bazaar, and try to afford it that way. I was hoping to avoid that by bartering with a shaman.
Yes, I know the parts are expensive. Yes, I know you fail. My question is, would you accept dropped meat/parts as payment? If so, how many would you require?
If this is a stupid question, please forgive me.

Not a stupid question, silly :)
I might be able to be convinced, depending on the parts. Some are harder to find than others, so folks might find those more tempting, especially if they're not hunting much in LoY. I've been searching high and low for iksar parts and can't find any, so I would definitely do a trade of those for a single dark elf potion. I want iksar parts for myself in the hopes that they'll get me high enough to start handing in bone chips for Cabilis faction.
Not all alchemists will probably be interested, but you might find at least one. I don't think it's an unreasonable thing to propose.

again it would very from alchemist to alchemist, i know i personally would take DE parts, iksar parts, and vah shir parts in trade. (DE being the easiest to sell in general, iksar being rare, and vah shir being rarest)

Depends on the shaman as said, but myself being a shaman with loads of plat yet little free time outside of raiding, saving me time is worth more to me than most. Yeah, I'd definately take a stack of parts for a potion.

I'll take the meat for a trade in illusions. Actually, I already have that exchange set up with a few of my evil guildmates.
They bring me a stack of meat, I give them 1-2 potions per stack.
It's a nice trade-off, and everyone is happy.
Would any of you take a stack or so of parts in exchange for a potion?
What a great idea! I've got scads of the various racial meats squirreled away from my earliest baking days, and would LOVE to be able to hit a few of the cities Euell isn't currently welcome in.

It's an even better idea if you hunt in LoY.
Nobody collects those parts. I simply ask around, when I am hunting, if anyone has Human Parts or DE Parts. They normally give them to me, and ask if I need Gnome ,Erudite, or Troll, or whatever else they have.
People GIVE them if you ask, groups let me keep them, with no rolls or questions asked.
If people ask, I mention that they make illusion potions that cost 85+ per attempt. Honest answer, and most people don't want to bother.
I now have 10+ Meat from any race that drops it, except Iksar(1) , and Vah Shir(0, if they drop it anywhere)

85p? should get more cha. I pay about 72p per wormwood at 121 cha. Would save a bit of money.

Racial meat is rather easy to come by in LoY zones, for all the races that have evil classes (human, erudite, ogre, troll, iksar, dark elf, gnome). The expensive part of the potion is the vendor-bought herb, wormwood (72-78 platinum depending on charisma).
Personally, I might give 1 or 2 potions if you brought me a stack of a good race parts (elf, halfling, dwarf, barbarian, etc), but I already have full stacks of the others so it would only cost me money to give you potions in exchange for meat.

You made a simple questing into a hard one man. Heres the simple version:
" /t ShamanWithDEPots How many of what kind of race meat are worth 80 pp to you?"

I have noticed an important variation in wormwood price... went from 78pp to 85pp, and then 99pp, and then back down again...
all this with the same ~110 cha.
I read here and there the bit about varying prices, but it's the first time I actually faced it with that magnitude.

I would take a stack of High Elf, Barbarian, Vahshir, or Half-elf for an illusion potion.
I would take 2 stacks of any of the rest.
I sell the potions at 120p for the common ones and 140p for the rarer. I have no trouble selling any of them. I still make a 50% margin, which ain't bad.
I put 3 of each on my mule each night... generally have sold about half of them each night.
I have 2 trader bags full of meats in the bank. I have two places I farm - Crushbone slaves (gratz me being the evil troll!) and Dulak Harbor. Also, my guildmates know that I make the potions, so they hold the meats for me... I must say that I have more meat right now then I might ever sell - except for the rares which I list first above regarding the trading.

I find them all the time on vendors. I always buy them out when I do.

That's because the merchant selling wormwood had been up for a very long time, and had started to get stingy because of overuse. You'll notice that merchants right next to banks usually offer horrible prices, and that's generally because everyone and their grandmother has been selling off their vendor trash to them.

Start by giving greater lightstones to the one de merchant in SRo that mentiones the research concordance. as a druid with a light god, you will need probably a decent amount.
Once aprehensive (i belive), you can move into the neriak 3rd gate library (be invis'd), and start handing in backpack upon backpack of red wine. Note, with a light god, you will still be kos with de illusion to the guards. The library is all beta-nuetrals, or temple of sol ro factions... except 2 on merchants of neriak.
The "necro" that takes the wine is actually on merchant faction, so having it up through the greater lighstone turnins helps a lot. Also, no guards whould path close enough to the library to cack you while handing in the wine. I don't think that any of the bars in neriak will be safe for you to buy more wine, so bring all you can.
Regardlees of all the wine, the guards in 3rd gate will be unaffected. They are on Cleric and Necro/SK factions... but you will be safe in commons (other than guild areas), and FQ (other than troll/oger areas, and if you're over level 20). There is one warrior factioned de in commons, but is around level 10... and should be non-agro after you reach 20.

Aye, I've already (light)stoned Smith Tvesa in Sro.
(After all, I Am without sin).
She loved me. :-)
Once of these days, when I find my Imp Sup Camo spell, I'm sneaking into the third gate.

He actually won't take wine from you unless your Dark Bargainers faction is apprehensive (or dubious) or better. Well, he'll take it, but he won't award faction.

No, the wandering guards are on Dreadguard inner faction, which is fixed by the wine handins - along with dreadguard outer. If you go inside the cleric or SK/necro guilds (as well as warrior and caster guilds) then you will have to worry about your faction with TheDead, Indigo Brotherhood and TheScorned (and cleric faction whatever that is).
My Vah Shir is quite capable of walking the streets of Neriak from FQ to 3rd gate with no guard problems, though it took a LOT of wine for the dreadguard to accept him.
