Planing Tool Combines

I've not seen this anywhere on the boards or site, so I figured I'd ask: are the planing tool and whittling knife like other trades' tools, so that they aren't used up on combines, or are they consumed when the combine is successful? Is this the same with the trueshot as with other bows?

Generally speaking the planing tool and whittling knife are consumed. Oddly in a break from that pattern, it's returned on the nightmarewood combine.

They are consumed when successfull, returned when unsuccessfull. The Mithril Knife however is returned no matter what.

Oldworld bow vendor recipes eat your plane/whittling knife... the new PoP bows all return your plane...
As for Woodelf cultural, the only reason why I've replaced my mithril knife was because I gave it to a friend who was just starting cultural stuff : )
