Board mini-outage

For those of you just hit by the mini-outage of the boards, panic not! In order to make some of the changes folks have been requesting, the House Ogre brought the boards down for a couple minutes while the DenMom was napping.

IF all goes well, a fix is now in place so that the board properly checks what has been read, and what has been unread. (Before, it was simply checking to see if a post was fresh since your last board activity, which meant any posts you had NOT read during your last visit were suddenly marked read without you touching them.)

Added note: Yes, this fix means that ALL posts were reset to unread to implement the change, but if this fixes the problems with read vs. unread posts, it's still a happy thing. :)

You'll find that it will be MUCH easier to find new/edited posts within a thread as well, as they'll have a different color strip across the top of the individual posts. (Currently it's blue, but Ngreth is poking around trying to find where he can change it to white, or something.)

The only problem is this mod DOES slow down the boards :/

Not really much can be done. I am hoping PHPBB come up with an official mod for this :)

There may be some growing pains like this from time to time.

Ngreth, Let me know if you want some help on fine tuning your tewaks. I have PHPBB set up on a server or can create you a login and SQL account that you can use for testing and tuning the tweaks and mods before sending them live if you want. Getting you a place to do this is no problem or trouble at all seeing how I own the server that it is going to be done on.

Of course you also made me realize I have my own dev server with no reason I can't install PHPBB there :)

Well maybe after I get the main website done... hmmmm. Since I have used MORE than the databases they alocate for the package I am usign (I promised not to excede bandwith on the dev server if they would give me more DB's :) )

You just hit the reason that I offered. So you DONT hit on any bandwith that you have to pay for.

A) I dont pay for that server to be there.
B) I dont pay for bandwith
C) I have full ADMIN rights ( I own it )
D) You dont have to pay for it. This is FREE.


If you dont consider the rest the last one is hard to beat.
