/rant on - I am really frustrated that the only way to really level a toon is to kill mobs. Even with the quests that are out there, the vast majority require killing a mob for a drop to turn in for an item and a piddly amount of xp. I really want a more dynamic game than that. I know that exploiters are stated as the reason why few upper level quests give any serious xp. So what? If that's the way someone wants to play the game, then so be it. Make the quest items no-drop, require level flags to even be considered. (In fact, all quests should already have this built in. A level 1 toon should not be able to complete the turn in of a level 40 quest.) Or make dynamic quests that change from day to day. Have a live person behind the quest. Add in quests that once completed are no longer available. There should really be other ways to gain significant xp without killing mobs if the game really wants to be called Everquest. /rant off

I always thought that a quest involving a lore turn-in item should soulmark your character. This soulmark would prevent you from doing it again.
Then, I think of the people that mess up their epics halfway through, and think to myself... that would really suck... but it sure would make the epic rarer, instead of the dime-a-dozen pieces they currently are.

Bahahahaha. I think I've seen a total of 6 Warrior epics in the entire time epics have been available. Now, if you're talking Rogue, Monk, or Druid, that's a horse of a different color.but it sure would make the epic rarer, instead of the dime-a-dozen pieces they currently are.

/agree Quinner.
Combat shouldnt be everything, but sadly, the minute someone suggests an alternate way to get something, without fighting, people scratch their heads and say
"But that means that they can get it without combat!"

Aye...I like doing quests. I wish we could set our characters up as "NPC"s as we can in the bazaar to give rewards for "quests". For example, instead of buying a MQ for something, a player sets up a "quest" to get the item. Person "A" takes the quest and gets the "reward" for returning the piece. /shrug That way, they would not have to feel so bad about MQs...=)

*blink*
In that study that guy did (better details on EQ Sony site, i just can't remember his name, Froggy or Fribbit or something like that?), Sullon had either the least or second least amount of achieved epics. So I do realize I'm not entirely... unbaised?... in saying this...
There are, reportedly, TWO clerics on Sullon with their epic. Yes. Two. Why? You have to sit and kill this one thing that MIGHT drop this shard thing you need... and you need four shard things. And I'm pretty dang sure they're nodrop (else those dumb things would be camped like is nobodies bizwax and sold for insane plat in the Bazaar, hm?). Well, that reason among others.
That does make me sad that epics are seemingly so devalued on other servers. They're still quite fearsome on Sullon.
Heh, of course, just about everything is more fearsome on Sullon.
Sorry for the massive OT, but that's just great.Originally posted by Kirstin Thornhill's Sig File"Being cute doesn't mean being weak. It means being underestimated..."

My PC quests would be that you create a "scripted" statement when someone hails you and ask them to get item_01 or take item_02 to PC_01. When they do, then you could give them some sort of reward.
For tradeskillers, instead of me sitting in the bazaar for hours on end selling (or not) all those successes you had while skilling up, imagine being able to sit in zone_01 and when a person hails you, you have a script that says "Bring me a stack of Silk Swatches and for your troubles, you shall be rewarded." PC_02 then returns you a stack of swatches. "Well done, PC_02. With these swatches, Tailoring Wu's will be a piece of cake. Take this for your troubles." You hand PC_02 a random piece of Wu's armor on you and a handful of monies. Much like quests do except you setup the items. You should have a vendor sack like in the bazaar. When the sack is empty or your coin runs out, then you would reply to the PC_02, "I have nothing further for you at this time." Not exactly a perfect system, but even based on the current system, this should be attainable and a definite way for you to regain supplies for tailoring or something else! Just a passing thought.
