Uncertain of trival as the recipes can not be memmed.
Combines are checked against your research skill.
There is restrictions on what combines you can do eg. You can not do the
combine for "word of Impetus" at research skill level 100. When you are close to
the skill restriction you can use a geerlok to tip it over so the combine can be done.

Exp for handing in the item is about 1/2 a blue each at level 50 !!.
I know I leveled a wizard this way for a good 10 levels. Once he got to 52-53, I mainly used it for aa exp
as it took about 95-100 combines per aa
