View Full Version : Expert Pottery Test broken

If your potter skill is between 250 and 299 you might want to hold off doing the Expert Potter Test.
It was changed in the 3/15 patch, but only half done. They changed what you had to make considerably but neglected to change what you had to hand in. This means that you make a number of unfired items but you hand in those items fired. I'm not sure if this was by design or not.
In addition you no longer have to make 3 blue ceramic bands, but you are expected to hand them in.
Just a heads up.

(who made all but the unfired idol to rallos zek and found he couldn't hand in anything)

I believe the switch from requiring fired items to unfired ones was to fix a loophole in the task. Firing an item isn't much of a test of skill, and the unfired items are tradeable.
The discrepancy with the blue ceramic band sounds likes a mistake, but I did a lower version of the pottery trophy and don't know anything about the expert requirements.

Wish I would have seen this before I did the step to make three unfired cruc of escape...then to see it wants me to hand in three blue ceramic bands.... doh

If the intent was to just make sure that people made the items, that is fine. I would like to have been told that I had to fire them though. Some of the items require rare glazes though to complete which is why I thought they made them slightly easier by not requiring those glazes.
In that case the only problem is the blue ceramic bands requirment for turn in. The rest we'll just have to deal with.

I had posted about the changes.
I thought the patch message also clearly mentioned it, but I could be wrong.
We can only try so many ways to "inform" you.
I will look into the ceramic bands issue though, that is definitely a bug. And you can complete the task by somehow acquiring the bands and turning them in (while I would of course prefer you make it... if you want to spend more money and buy it in the meantime it is up to you.)

- The pottery task now makes the combine check on the more difficult of the pottery wheel combine or the kiln combine. You will still need to complete the item (fire it) to hand into the judge. This is to enforce it being a test of the potter’s skill, not the potter’s friend’s skill.
Yup.. so you did. I appologize. That what I get for doing this quest late at night and reading the patch message way to early in the morning.
The Blue Ceramic bands should be easy enough to make, but that still leaves me out the materials for the 3 unfired crucibles of escape that I made. Oh well, that's just part of tradeskilling I guess.

Yeah the crucibles were a bug. I have fixed it, but it needs a full patch to change... it should have been unfired blue ceramic bands. You could get lucky and sell the Crucibles :)

Hi Ngreth, I'm doing the Masters Potters Test, and it has the same problem. Create 4 unfired Crucibles of Escape. Hand in 4 Blue Ceramic Bands.
I have of course bugged it in game. Did it under quests.

I fixed the whole series where I saw it. Will re-check to be sure.
Edit: I got to work and checked. It looks like I did fix where the blue ceramic bands were wrong across all the levels of task it was included on :) This needs a full patch to change on live, of which I have not yet heard an date for yet.

If SOE is consistient the next patch will probably be mid April, they usually have one every month and the last major patch was over a week ago.

I finished my Mastery Pottery quest yesterday. One thing I noticed, that I haven't seen mentioned, is that it asks you to make 4 each of Spherical Bottles and Hand-Formed Bottles. The quest actually requires you to make 8 each (4 combines, yield 2 each)...then you only have to hand in 2 each. So, you end up with 6 extra.
I thought it would be 2 combines of each to make 4...but when I finished that, it only showed 2/4 on each.
