View Full Version : Is the Trophy worth it?

If my skill is already 250, wouldn't a Geerlock suffice?
An average geerlock would drop my Int down to 235 (swap out my Zlandicar's heart), but that shouldn't make any difference.
I've heard about people failing 3 or 4 times on the Trophy, that scares me. Although I wouldn't mind doing it once and paying about 4kpp for a 100%WR bag and the trophy though. :D
Opinions?

Depends. I think it is worth it but I love to tradeskill. If the only reason you would do it is for the weight reduction bag, just buy a tink bag and don't look back.

Don't forget the stats. The trophy has +50 charisma as well as +10 Str/Wis/Int (where, oh where is the dex?).
It's also nice to be able to summon a 10 slot, 100% weight reduction bag that you can destroy.

The stats I could take or leave. I get 10 Int from my Stein of Moggok and I already have my Int up to 255 without buffs when tradeskilling. Putting it in my Range slot wouldn't do much good.
The Cha is nice for buying components, I'll give you that. I hate swapping gear all the time.
How often do you use the summoned 10 slot bag? I have lost a couple of nice items because I have logged with stuff in a No Rent bag.
If I get rich enough off of my brewing skill I'll think about the trophy. But then... who ever gets "rich enough"? :D

I make a hand made backpack each and every time I brew to have 10 extra slots to put ingredients in.
Because this fills up my only empty slot when I am done brewing I have to 'OOC' to sell the backpack....
I have done this at least 20 times in the past few months.
So spending 5k to attempt, and fail, on this trophy is worth it to me.
I will keep trying until I get it, so I can have the 10 int in my range (6 more than my range has now), 50 cha so I don't have to swap equip to buy/sell, and a tink bag equivelent all for the price of 1 tink bag (so far, it will prolly cost a lot more eventually), it's an amazing deal.

I personally think it's worth it, and who said you have to pay 4k for the thing? I only spent about 2k on Rodcet Nife to get mine made.
2k?
How did you accomplish this, considering those Corking devices go for 2k alone, and most every brewer can't make them themselves.
Thats not even taking into account the gem costs involved in the seal itself.
EQScott

2k?
You are either lying or you don't manage your money very well.
8 Velium Bars at 262pp each = 2096pp
4 Rubies at 131 each = 524pp
Black Sapphire = Market value = 50pp
Diamond = Market value = 50pp
Blue Diamond = Market value = 400pp
Jacinth = ????
Corking Device (guildie made it and charged me a BD) = 400pp
Corking Device (to replace the one used) = 400pp
Total = 3920pp + misc stuff I didn't list
If you say that you looted most of the stuff to make your trophy, that is still a "cost" because you are using something that has value.

If the stats are useless to you...
And you don't want to risk 4k on the wieght redux bag...
And you're afraid of the summoned bags...
And you've already got a geerlok...
Then getting the trophy is just a matter of pride and bragging rights - you do it because you want it, not because you need it.
That's why it's called a trophy. ;)
Personally, I'm going for a trophy with all of my toons who are doing tradeskills whether they need it or not - just for the pride of being able to show it off as a badge of honor. :D

are the stats the same for ALL trophies in all trade skills?
if you gm multiple tradeskills and have geerlocks for all, do you only need a trophy for each skill or only 1?
unless your ego demands you have one for each tradeskill.

How didyou find velium bars for only 200pp, the best price with faction and cha that I have ever seen is 262pp per bar?
Yes, the stats are the same for ALL of the trophies. They have their unique modifiers on each tradeskill trophy.
You can equip up to 4 trophies, even though you won't get the stats from the one in the ammo slot. It is more a pride thing to get each trophy of the tradeskill that you have GMed.

I dont really think it's so much ego as it is pride. When I finally GM my first skill and get my trophie it will be with GREAT pride. To then spend 3 AA points and the time to get even a second skill to 250 it is even more pride in what you are doing. 3 AA can also mean more STR, Run 3, Regen 3, or any of the other things you can get to help kill and play the game better. A gerrlok is nice to have, but I want the tropies for PRIDE, not ego. And even with 75 base CHA 150 more never hurts, 225 CHA and sneak can get me some great prices :D !

I have a friend who bought them in Thurg for me, the price he said they were was like 208 or so.

It would be nice if Verant dropped the NORENT tag from the summoned bag.
I do use it, though. When you are making things that require a lot of ingredients it's nice to have a 10-slot bag that you don't mind destroying. I keep one of my main inventory slots "bag free" so I have a slot available for mixing bowls, Tanaan tradeskill containers, mortor & pestle, etc. When needed I can put a free 10-slot bag in that slot :)

Sounds like your friend was being nice to you and not asking the full price for the bars. Since they are only sold on that one merchant in Thurg, I am fairly confident in the price that I listed.
I am only correcting, this because I don't want it to be misleading for others.

For some of us who are not part of big raiding guilds, it is about the best Ranged slot item we are going to have available to us. I think it is a great achievement and a good piece of gear too.

I made my trophy for pride , ego and bragging rights and I totally admit it :)
All those minos I did in old ui, with only one bag open /shudder.
I love brewing, I do it for the fun, and the trophy was a nice finish, the stats and bags were just bonus :)
Can't you turn in a Grandmaster's Bag (or whatever the NO RENT summoned one is) to a gnome in Bazaar to make it permanent, but lore?
As a GM Brewer and a Ranger, I haven't made the trophy. I don't need the seal for my ego - my brews provide enough of that ;). My girlfriend plays a chanter and got her trophy. The stats are just much better for any caster, specially a chanter.

As for value of the trophy... as a GM brewer and a Ranger, I have not made a seal to feed my ego - my brews provide enough of that ;). My girlfriend plays a chanter and made one and loves it, but the stats are far better for her than me.

For those worrying about the NO RENT. This is taken from the EQTraders site under Trade Skill Trophies:
August 16 update: hand Jolum one of your summoned grandmaster satchels to receive a no drop, lore, weight 1.2, Grandmaster's Carry All (this upgraded bag is NOT no-rent, making it a much safer place to store valuable tradeskill items).
So there you go :)

Well you could always do that hand in of the no rent bag to get the permanent one.....

As a Ranger GM brewer, I haven't bothered to make the trophy. To me, the stats aren't worth the price, and I get enough pride from my drinks that I don't need an item to remind me ;).
My girlfriend is a chanter GM jeweller, and she loves her tradeskill trophy.

Yalenya is correct. Best price for the bars are 262.5p each, as purchased by a 55 chanter with 255 charisma and ally faction. You're friend was either mistaken, purchased from someone who sold at a loss, or just being nice.
Also, someone mentioned the market price for diamonds and black sapphires as being in the 50p range. That is not true on our server. On our server diamonds run 190p, black sapphires 180p, and jacinthe 150p. So your mileage may vary.
I've estimated the cost to make the artisan seal to be around 3.5K on our server unless you find the dropped gems yourself.

This is an old thread, but of coures Diamonds are never sold below 190. That is because merchants buy them for 190!

I’m very much looking forward to making my trophy. Of course, failing to make it scares the willies out of me. I’ve been lucky and I’ve gotten the gems as loot, including one of the rubies, but it’s going to take some time to save for the other items, especially the bars. So if I fail I fear it will be some time before I’ll be able to try again. But try I will, for this is a really nice item.

I live by that +50 cha for buying/selling to vendors as well as living past the cha check on a resisted harmony. Very glad I did my trophy. Got it on the first try too :)
yes, it's definitely worth it. I only have my brewing trophy, but i use it for all my skills. The +50 CHA does wonders for the cost of smithing. That savings alone, pays for the cost of the trophy. I got my trophy on the first try, but even if i hadn't, it'd be worth it. It's also good for carrying around tons of ore when smithing. You'll never get encumbered again! I summon myself 7 bags, and with the 8th permanent bag, my weight never goes over 80 with a full inventory of blocks of ore.

I currently have all 7 trophies, and am wearing the Smiths' hammer in my primary, and Tailor's needle in ranged, keeping my Shield for the AC on it. Then I also have a trophy in my ammo slot, which doesn't give me stats, but just to simply show off :)

Ok,
let's cut the mustard....
anyone that has gone to Thug and bought Velium Bars knows, without a doubt, exactly how much they cost. 262 pp each. Minimum. Period.
The summoned bags are NO RENT. If you haven't mastered the concept of NO RENT you should probably go gank yourself now.
(Hint: Discussed in another thread.... make a hotkey for camping...
line 1: /sit on
line 2: /em thinks Hey, if you have stuff in NO RENT bags, clear it out.... OR ELSE!!
line 3: /gu Hey, everyone in the guild please remind me not to loose all our nifty stuff in that NO RENT bag I am about to send into the ether.
line 4: /camp
line 5: /em thinks NO.... REALLY!!! You>>>HAVE<<< ++NO++RENT++BAGS++
*grin*)
There was ONE GUY who said it wasn't worth it because he had failed -7- times.
Notice, he -tried- =7= times.
It was worth it to try that much.... if it really wasn't worth it... he wouldn't have.
Is it worth it to have 2 trophies?
Heck YEAH! First one to get the nifty bags (which are lots cheaper than tink bags... you can't just toss a tinks bag onto the 'destroy' button if you need to pick up a different container... 7 tradeskill bags = one trophy .... 7 tinks bags = 38k pp or more depending on faction)
Second one to get 10 more int/wis 10 more str (hey, if you are getting WR bags for SOME reason you sure as Plane of Hate want more str) and 50 more cha....
2 trophies gives you BEST PRICE with every vendor you can trade with.
Now if only they would make a portable brew barrel.... *grin*
