Groundspawn at cog wheels near minotaur caves.
The groundspawns appear after servers came up and have a spawn time of approximately 22h after being picked up. They are usually picked up within the first 5 minutes after server up, so you better be the first there if you want any.
There was a guide with screenshots of the spawn points on the old board, but I don't know how to do this here and do not find the groundspawns that a good source of iron oxides anyway.

Earth/Steam Elementals near minotaur caves.
Iron Oxides might drop from different kinds of elemental mobs in this area. Since elementals and others share the same spawns it is best to just kill everything that's moving. Welcome green farming.

It might be that as of lately elemental loot (iron oxide, russet oxide(sp), ..) drops off stone/rock mobs in all luclin zones. This is not confirmed, but I have seen them in most zones where those mobs spawn.

Iron oxide has been confirmed to drop off the fire elementals. The different elemental types (fire, earth, wind, water) share the same spawn points, so kill as many as you can. Be aware that the rare spawns (names escape me) are much more powerful than the regular elementals.

Yes all new oxide drops... I seem to remember reading they drop off Fire Elemental in twilight too, could just be a rumor though

Having collected Oxides for a great many months, I was surprised to find that while I have not yet been lucky enough to get them from Earth Elementals in Steamfont, they have dropped from the STEAM Elementals there... four times in fact. The Steamies also drop Swirling Mist (more commonly, ratio 5:1 vs. Iron Oxide)and occasionally low-level gems.
The Earths have given me only Russet Oxide, Mercury and a few low-level gems.

I can confirm Iron Oxides drop from fire elementals in Twilight Sea... possibly from the other types as well. At the time I was only killing other types to get more earth elementals to spawn for windstones for a friend, and picked up two IO's without even trying within a period of about four hours.

The elementals were green to me at lvl 51 but give good experience to those in their mid-20's to high 30's (a number were yellow or red to a friend at 26).

We got an iron oxide from a rock in Akheva Ruin the other day when we where shard hunting. Only got one so they are pretty rare, but still a nice surprise.

It would appear that all of the rock/elemental mob types on Luclin are now dropping old world elemental loot (oxides, crap gems, etc).

And the timer on the Steamfont groundspawns are around 22-23 hours, though unless you're the first person to log in after a patch (or other server downtime), grab them all and start a timer you're better off going to another zone and getting them as drops. It's hard to compete with people who have level 1 alts/second accounts camped at the gears in Steamfont.

Since the rock creatures and all elementals fit in this catagory, are we saying that all Summoned mobs drop Iron Oxide now? At least through Luclin? When did Luclin start dropping?

As of December 5th 2002 (or thereabouts)I believe they have chenged the Groundspawn quantity. I found 10 ground spawn after server up on the 5th of which 4 were Iron Oxide and 6 were Russet Oxide. 4 of them were on the large cog that lies on the ground (where the merchant used to be) 2 in the center of the HUGE standing Cog , 2 on the standing shaft to the right of the Huge Cog, 1 on the Huge Cog at the bottom right side, 1 on the Oven to the right of the Mino cave. This is to the best of my memory where they were.

Darklens.. There's 2 spawns you didn't get. The only one that "leaps" out at me is the 1 at the base of the oven on the left side of the mino cave. It's possible someone snagged 10 and the other two didn't get picked up for awhile after, staggering the spawn.

On Rodcet Nife (spawn times seem server-specific) after grabbing the groundspawn for several cycles after several server resets I've come up with this:

There are 12 ground spawns: 6 Iron Oxide, 6 Russet Oxide. Iron Oxides always spawn at the same spawn spots. Spawn time on Rodcet is between 23:45 and 23:55 after the spawn was picked up.

I was also lucky enough to catch the spawn during one of the PoP patches which apparently required bringing the servers (or at least steamfont) up three times in quick succession.. As when I got there, each of the spawns had three of their appropriate Oxide. 18 Iron / 18 Russet.

I recently spent about 6 hours in Marus Seru killing Stonegrabbers (for the most part) with my roommates 30-35 monk (went from 30 to 35 there). In that time I picked up 18 iron oxides (avg 3/hour). There did not seem to be a specific type that dropped it.

Killing rocks in DSP and ML has yet to yield iron oxides for me (one either the little monk or my main). Will offer more if I get more info :)

I got lucky and found one on the cog while playing with the mino hero a few days ago. One odd thing though, on what I'd guess would be the other spawn spots, I found mossy drake scales (or something like that) - any ideas?

Mossy Drake scales have been there FOREVER. They're actually different spawn spots in the same area, but their respawn is much quicker, so you're more likely to see them. I imagine that what happened is that you found the one iron oxide that the last fella through had missed, and a bunch of scales that'd respawned.

Iron oxide does drop from the earth elementals in Twilight Sea. I have looted them myself when clearing the island.

In Twilight sea IO's can drop from BOTH the Earth and the Fire elemantials.
